If I recall it does. There is a folder in your home folder called Library inside there is a folder called caches if that data is cached it probably is in there. Just out of curiosity why?

Probably not immediately, my guess would be that (assuming I am correct about the location of the cache) the only way to completely get rid of the file would be a combination of secure deleting the file itself and the associated cache files. (This is going to be a global effect for the user because OS X doesn't cache previews individually.)
images and videos are cached by quick look. which you will find in ~Library/caches/
and as security guros alike I take it you have filevault enabled? - and thus is fine 🙂
