Finder: Cut and paste files. Delete = up a folder.

This was very quick on Windows Explorer with a quick cut, backspace, browse to new location and paste.

How can I get this experience back? I don't want to lose screen space by switching to a dual pane filemanager. I prefer to just cut and paste single files and bring up a second window if I have more files to move.

My O/S: Bigsur. I didn't post in the Bigsur subforum as I'd like to include others in the discussion.

The Mac Finder doesn’t support cutting of files. You can copy, but not cut them. Drag and drop is the “normal” Mac way. But there is a keyboard shortcut that will help you do what you want:
