The steps in this post should work (although you might not want --deep). You need to use Terminal, but only once (as opposed to some earlier workarounds that needed you to use Terminal every time).
Thank you for responding, which suggests that the answer to my initial post ("is there a solution to this issue that doesn't involve using terminal?") is "no". I don't have any experience or confidence in using Terminal, and have no idea what "removing the signature of the app and self-signing" means. So encountering this issue in 2025 is a real drag.

I'm talking about the digiKam app, which I'd like to use.
If you have installed the latest digiKam pkg (digiKam-8.8.0-Qt5-MacOS), it has a script that signs the app by running:
sudo codesign --verbose --force --deep --sign - /Applications/digiKam.org/digikam.app/Contents/MacOS/digikam
sudo codesign --verbose --force --deep --sign - /Applications/digiKam.org/showfoto.app/Contents/MacOS/showfoto

It should work without any additional steps.

I have no idea what Sentinel is or what it's for, so I'm reluctant to go there.
Sentinel is an app signed by the developer and notarized by Apple. That should make it safer to use than digiKam ;)

Sentinel is an app I have absolutely no need for or interest in, so being safer is kind of irrelevant. On the other hand, the digiKam app would facilitate my work but unfortunately I don't understand the advice you've offered or know how to proceed with it.

I have downloaded the latest digiKam pkg (digiKam-8.8.0-Qt6-MacOS) but MacOS won't let me install it.
