Path Finder is overkill for me, and not worth the $40. If Apple just added a Dropstack-like feature, I would be content. Also, they need to bring back proper media controls--I can't stand the stupid play/pause button. I know they want you to use Quicklook, but still...

Yes, this is the one thing I miss most from Tiger. I actually used those audio/video preview icons to scrub through things. (Well, that and I liked Tiger's motion transition to Front Row better than the new fade in/out).

I think the bottom line is that Finder was optimized for managing files with your mouse. Many of us want to be able to use arrow keys and command-shortcuts (thus the cry for cut/paste).

I also agree about the file/folder sort order, but the last few times I brought that up, I was always basically told "if you don't want to learn the local language then why don't you move back to where you came from".

This pretty much sums it up. Now I know why all my keyboards wore out so fast on my PC laptops - it's because I used them. My macbook keyboard on the other hand, still works like new. :D

That's just the Apple fanbase talking. Given an argument they can't win, they always resort to useless comebacks mingled with copious quantities of MS bashing.

So I'm trying out Path Finder right now. Really liking it--it blends what I like about Finder with some really cool features (as well as better sorting, which I forgot I don't like in Finder). I'm also pleased to see there are still dual-view file browsers out there, which I haven't seen since Tux Commander.

Drop Stacks for file burning is a nice feature, and I like the customizability. I just wish the windows opened as fast as Finder windows.

I'll have to see if it's worth the full $40 for me, but at this point, I'm inclined to say "yes".
