If Apple end up adding AirPods to Find my iPhone I can see them removing this app from the App Store.
And it could be simply Tile-like functionality where the device simply beeps when in range (and optionally, low in battery). And I would like the feature to be included in other Bluetooth accessories like Apple Pencil and Apple TV Remote.

Even though I'm still waiting for mine, I think I have to download this because its only a matter of time...
[doublepost=1483725364][/doublepost]Whoa missed the last part about the price, it's $5.49 in Canada! Think I'll wait on that one...!

I don't tend to lose things at all, but i'd just like to say to the developer - this is s very creative use of technology.. nice sample effort.

:(((( I lost my left airpod.... in snow... I had to give up looking for it ...
I called Apple - they told me they cannot offer replacement - I need to buy new ones.
Apple Hungary of course... because Apple US confirmed I can order replacement.

I am soooooo sad.

It's quite shocking how some random third-party developer thought of this when some multi-billion dollar company didn't.

Apple would be skewered to a wall with flaming torches if they release an app the "kinda sorta worked in some situations."

How do you lose the Apple TV remote? Is it under the couch pillow? There's no reason why that thing should be leaving the room in which the Apple TV is running :p

Really, because my son lost our first remote and we still haven't found it. We had to buy a second remote + a giant case to make it easier to find.

Right now you can use the app in any US Apple store and it won't detect a single AirPod.

Might want to read the article first....

I'm surprised this got through. Apple used to be very strict about using their copyrighted images (of products) in apps and app screenshots.

Otherwise, too bad I didn't think of this! Like others, I do believe it will eventually get pulled with an update to "Find my iPhone"...

You must live alone.

You are underestimating humans. I vividly remember searching for our tv remote as a child. We looked for hours only to find it in the fridge where my mother had left it.

Ah touché.

I used to lose my mother's tv remote in the refrigerator as a child. It was always between the cheese and sliced ham.

It's a pretty good concept and better than nothing.

We need to get Tim Crook out of Apple.

Make
Apple
Great
Again!

Is it really shocking? A cludgy solution that doesn't work reliably enough hasn't been pushed out by the first party? Not shocking.

I'm actually not shocked at all. A creative developer community has always been part of what Apple's been about. Apple shouldn't be expected to come up with their own esoteric solutions for everything. If they did, there would be no App Store and no manufacturers of accessories and peripherals.

Besides, it seems from your post that if this had been an Apple app, you'd be the first to complain about how "Tim Crook" must go because it doesn't work perfectly.

I swear, the new complaint formulas are so predictable and sound like one of these:
"[Apple product] sucks because [thing I don't like] therefore Apple now sucks so Tim must go."
or
"[non-Apple product] is great because [thing I like] therefore it was Apple should've made it, therefore Apple now sucks and Tim must go."

Brilliant.

Updates: ability to track the case, adjust the grammar of the in-app sentences, and lower the price.

Well I think it does because the device can see the battery level on the case as well as the airpods. So as long as it is paired, the device can "see" the case.

Good point. But I'm not sure how that works. There's no radio in the battery case, from what I can tell on the iFixit teardown, and if there was, it would have to maintain a constant draw on the battery case as well, in order to be responsive to BT calls for data. So maybe there is and iFixit didn't report it, which would account for the reports of massive power drains some customers were having with the battery case. If so, I wonder why the developer didn't include the case as well in his app?

Is it possible that the AirPods themselves are updated with the info when they are stored, and the battery level reported is the last level when the AirPods were removed? Theoretically, the case battery shouldn't be discharging when the AirPods are removed, unless there is a radio in use requiring a constant trickle draw to remain alert, so that would be a fairly accurate report, unless the AirPods remained out of the case for many days for some reason.

For years people on here have wanted Apple to re-design the Finder, now someone else has, but this isn't what they meant... ;)

I guess this is a good idea, but it highlights one of the downsides of the product, however much people are liking them. Small things are easy to lose. I hope this, or alternatives to it, helps people out when they need it.

I wonder why the developer didn't include the case as well in his app?

It could be because the device can only see the case if it is open. So if the app could find the case too, it might be unreliable because it would only work if it were open already - and it probably won't be.

Because then they would lose money if people could find their AirPods instead of buying new ones.

Nonsense! First of all, Apple wouldn't bother to create an app for few clumsy people wo would easily lose themselves, nevermid their belongings! I find airpods to be much easier to not lose then the earpods. And using that logic of yours, Apple would have not created find my phone app either, since it would be much profitable for them if people ended up getting another phone. But hey ho, this is a MacRumors where people believe Apple should just give stuff for free to people, because that's what their business is all about!

Seems like a cool idea, but has anyone even lost them? Seriously i go running, i ride down hills at 50km/h with wind blowing through my ears and they still don't fall out.

Well, it's an interesting concept, but $4 seems like a lot of cash for an generally hit or miss "you're getting warmer, now you're getting colder" type of "solution"... not sure how to make it better, but $4? Not going to burn that much on a non-solution.

Heck, put the charge case in your pocket and return the earpod to the case when you take it off. Problem solved for free.

Smart app. But the design of AirPods really annoys me. Did Apple partner with Philip Morris or British Tobacco to design the case and pods? Reminds me of a cigarettes and cigarette packaging. There must have been a much better design, something original.

The silver one that comes with the ATV is really small and slips around due to its tapered edges. Always falls between furniture or something. We lost our silver one and only have the white one from my iMac G5, which is grippier. I'm gonna tape a ruler to the silver one once I find it.
[doublepost=1483745484][/doublepost]
Losing the atv remote isn't such a bad problem actually, because there is the apple tv remote app which is free and a much cheaper option than buying a replacement remote.
Yeah, except the app used to just work over LAN hassle-free with an ATV, and now, you have to enable Home Sharing (whatever that is) and log in to set it up. IDK who thought that was an upgrade. No way I'm going to teach my parents how to do that.
