Despite paying for 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, I still don't have a Finder that opens windows in Column view every single time.

All I want is a Finder that opens windows in Column view, every time. Not most of the time. Not 99% of the time. Every f***ing time.

Don't get angry with me if you have already tried this - but doesn't "Open new windows in column view" from the Finder preferences achieve this?

I have no idea what this "Open new windows in column view" is, but I find it hard not have control what window I am using.

Option + tab is not good enough.
Dashboard is slow.

I need something like win xp (damn I hate win xp), where you have the opened windows down at the start menu. You can choose from there which windows to use.

I have this selected and it seems to work >90% of the time, but there are still many instances when a window opens in one of the other two views.

It's just that I would think making something like this work reliably would not be too difficult in an OS as mature as X is.
