first of all i am using a trackpad - this might work differently with a mouse
i am using lion - maybe apple changed/fixed this in mountain lion?

in icon mode i am aware that you can hold down CMD and then highlight multiple icons or click individual icons to make a selection/deselect files

in list view, i basically want to use shift and select a range of files, skip over a few files and then use shift again to ADD more files to the selection in a range.

e.g. select A-D with clicking A, then holding shift and clicking D to select everything from A-D, skip E-G select H-L (using shift and CMD, NOT individually clicking H,I,J,K,L), etc. - in list view

any solutions? or am i doing it wrong?

I'm not sure if this answers, but it seems I was once able to hold down the button (or equivalent on track pad) and drag select numerous items. Then it failed in the upgrade.

Now I have to 1 1/2 click: button down/up/down quickly and hold (in other words, like a double click to open an app but WITHOUT releasing the button) and then I can drag select as before.

this does it! its a little tricky to do that 1&1/2 click, but it works.

thanks.
