Somehow, my Finder Sidebar is missing. It's the thing that shows all of my mounted drives and shortcuts. How do I get it back?

Or, perhaps, click the little dot halfway down on the left side and drag it to the right. wrldwzrd89 has the more likely solution.

Bingo, that worked. Thank you! wrldwzrd89's solution just changed the outline of the window.

...And it's behavior. In chromed mode (with toolbar and sidebar), folders open in the enclosing window; in simple mode (collapsed toolbar and sidebar), folders open in a new simple window.

advice not working

clicking that oval thing nor the dot half way down the side work. they dont bring up my side bar.

You might have a corrupt finder.plist file.

HD/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Move it to your Desktop, then Restart.

Mouse over FAVORITES

If the problem is just the Favorites themselves are missing, if you place your cursor over the word FAVORITES at the top of the Finder sidebar, a faint "Show" or "Hide" will appear to the right. Click on the Show/Hide.

Works on Lion. Can't speak to other releases.
