Finder: where are my devices?

OK the bigger picture is I want to install a Sandbox plugin for Sketchup.
I go preferences>extensions>tick sandbox>go

but it only gives a faded Sketchup icon and nothing can be done.

So I decided to uninstall everything to do with Sketchup and start again to make sure I have the latest version.

So I open a Finder Window to look for stuff but under Devices there is only Remote Disc (and there isn't one)
(sub-question: How do I upload the shot of the Finder Window?)

Isn't there normally MacHD, Home, etc etc in the left sidebar?
Where are they?

ps I just did a simple reinstall of Sketchup no searching for/removing files or even waiting for a secure empty trash……(poor)result trying to do Sandbox plugin the same.)

Finder > Preferences > General
- Show these items on the desktop:

Make sure the ones you want to see are checked.

Hope it's as simple as that!

Sub question: Use Command, shift and number 3 to print screen.
Use Command, shift number 4 then use the curser to take a smaller screen grab (like snip tool in Windows)

Thankyou all I got the sidebar sorted and big progress with Sandbox too.

I knew how to make screenshot just thought you were using some clever way to upload a whole window.
So I screenshot a small finder window and a link to a dropbox URL came up I shall see what happens with that below.

Ah so that didn't upload.
Ohhhh one question leads to another.
I looked for the screenshot on my desktop where it always used to go to try and upload from there. It's not there. On trying another SS I notice it appears for one second on the desktop then disappears.
Then a little notice appear top right saying a copy has been saved to my clipboard and links to a dropbox URL which didn't upload above.
So I Spotlight Clipboard and……..nothing there.

??
