Finder windows

    I'm a little embarrassed to ask . . .

    but; how do i not open another window. ie close one and replace with the next window in icon view?

    Finder -> Menu Bar -> Finder -> Preferences -> General Tab -> Uncheck "Always open folders in a new window".

    And now, if there's an occasion when you want to have a new window open, hold down the Command key.
