Hi all,

Hope this is the right place to ask a question on how to find my old iPhone backup in Time Machine.

Here's what happened. I backed up my iPhone to iTunes while on Mavericks and backed up my computer to the Time Machine external hard drive. After that I upgraded my mac to Yosemite and never backed up my iPhone (I know I should have!). About 2 months later (today) I forgot my password on my iPhone since I always used fingerprint to unlock it. Entered wrong password several times and iPhone restored itself and wiped all info.

I know the backup should be in this folder (~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/), but in Time Machine I can't go to the date prior to Yosemite install. Is there a way to retrieve my old backup that was under Mavericks? How do I go to the time before I installed Yosemite to retrieve backup of my iPhone?

Thanks for your help in advance!

When you open iTunes, Preferences, Devices, does any of your old backups show up at all? How about iCloud backups? As for the Time Machine backups prior to the installation of Yosemite, they should be there if in fact the backups were successfully made. I have run into the same problem (not with passwords though) having to restore an old backup to my wife's phone to restore chat sessions she lost. I found the backup I was looking for and just restored the entire MobileSync folder. If Time Machine does not show your older backups, they may be lost or perhaps were never made even though you thought they were OK.

Thanks for your reply. No, none of the previous backups show in iTunes, otherwise I wouldn't be writing here. The interesting thing is that MobileSync folder is not showing in time machine at all. However when I navigate to MobileSync folder in computer then engage time machine while there, then it shows it however only to the date when Yosemite was installed.
I even thinking to reinstall Mavericks again and see if I can reach out to MobileSync folder within my old backup? That looks like the only solution, hoping that it is there. My theory is since under Yosemite I can not go back to Mavericks backup time, hopefully with Mavericks it will go back to it.
Any ideas?

It's certainly worth a try. Let us know if that works.

GOOD NEWS!!! By reinstalling Mavericks I was able to go back and get all my previous iPhone backups from Time Machine! Although it was a long shot it worked like a charm. Hope this info would be helpful.
