I have a 12.9 iPad pro (original) 10.5 Pro & just bought a mini 5.

I am thinking of eliminating the 10.5 and 12.9 to get a 2018 12.9 and keeping the mini 5 for reading and portability.

Anyone else have 3 iPads, and do you use all the sizes?

Hey, as long as you want to own two or three devices, go for it. I personally couldn’t make a use case for two iPads (plus iPhone), but whatever works best for you. Life is short, get what inspires you!

I did have 3, but gave my Air 2 to a friend. I did manage to use all 3 for different purposes. Now I have 12.9 first gen, and 10.5 Pro - I use the 12.9 most at home, love the big screen, but I think all round the 10.5 Pro is the best iPad for my requirement, portable but good size screen, 4 speakers, promotion, and I have cellular 256 storage, so never run out of space and internet almost everywhere, plus headphone jack which I need, and Touch ID, which I prefer.

I can see for many the 12.9 and mini5 would be a good combo, but for me the mini screen is too small. I don’t know what I’ll do next because the new pro models don’t suit my needs. I can understand getting rid of the headphone jack on phones, but on iPads it is ridiculous.

I have three because I’m lazy and have a tri level house. A new 11 inch, 2nd gen 12.9, and a Mini 4. If the 5 is all that I will sell or trade the 4 and get one. It’s hard using the 4 after using the butter smooth 11

12.9" Pro : PDF and comics
9.7" Pro : primary device, bring everywhere
7.9" mini 4 : doesn't get used much

I got the mini 4 on sale a couple years back. By that time, I had already gotten used to the size and weight of the 9.7" and the slimdown from iPad 2/3/4 to Air was sufficient enough to get them to fit in my purses. I ended up not using the mini 4 much. If the iPad mini 3 had mini 4 specs instead (released the same time as the Air 2), I'd probably use that one more.

Reading is my primary use for iPad. I wanted a mini for single-handed reading but when an A8/2GB mini didn't materialize in 2014, I ended up continuing to use the Air. I eventually got used to the big iPad and found myself adapting to the weight (using a cover that can be used as stand, propping the iPad against pillows, my legs, etc).

Granted, I do have the benefit of always carrying purses that will fit the 10-11" class iPads. Obviously, these aren't pocketable at all while the mini might be in certain cases.

I currently have:
  • 11” iPad Pro
  • 10.5” iPad Pro
  • iPad Mini 4 (mostly music)
  • Dell Venue 8 Pro (Pocket sketchbook)

I am going to pick up the Mini 5, which will replace the 10.5” Pro, the Mini 4, and the Dell. The 10.5 i’ll Keep, but will probably kick around at home.

Ive got the first gen 12.9 pro that mainly gets used as a bedroom tv set mounted on my dresser these days. It started as my main travel and home device but it is pretty big so after a year or so i found a 9.7 and that was the one.

I sold that 9.7 to get the 11 pro, but selling the 12.9 doesnt feel worth what id likely get for it. Its still pretty useful. So
  • the 11 i take everywhere, do everything with
  • the 12.9 is my bedroom/kitchen tv set and backup to take places i might not want to bring the 11.
Now im considering the mini 5 as a media “sketchpad” for music/photos/video editing but i cant justify the cost of the 256 and 64g just isnt enough space. 128 at a split difference cost mightve sold me, or if they have a great $100 off holiday sale im in.

I currently have
iPad Pro 12.9 3rd gen
iPad Pro 10.5
iPad mini 2

I consider the 12.9 to be my main device, but when I want to take a lighter and smaller iPad out, I take the 10.5.
My mini 2 doesn't see much use anymore, probably really because it's a slower device, the screen now has a white light bleed down the right side and my data SIMs are in my 12.9 and 10.5 iPads. I'm debating whether to replace it with a mini 5, but it's probably overkill for my needs if I'm being honest with myself. That doesn't mean that I won't do it though. I'm on crutches and the mini fits nicely in my back pocket, quite useful when I don't have my hands free to carry a larger iPad.
