Hi,

I am searching for a good working and available 2 TB SSD for the 6,1. The SSD must wir under Monterey (perhaps Ventura too) Sleep, warm boot and TRIM Must also work without problems.

Two guys in this forum tell me the Kingston FURY RENEGADE is a good option, but this SSD is a bit expensive in my country (160€)

Other SSDs like the Samsung 970 Evo Plus, WD Black and Blue, Kioxia are at around 100 €

Are there good alternatives from this company’s?

Here is the list of available SSDs and the preferred company’s

EDIT:
I chose the Kingston Fury Renegade 2TB

Big Sur and Window 10 is running on the 6,1. Until now I haven't found any problems. No beachball, no Lags, no waiting after pressing the button. Windows also running well.

I have a 2TB 970 EVO Plus for more than six months. with my late-2013, no issues. You gonna need a heatsink for sure if you buy one 970 EVO Plus.

Several people on MacRumors prefer Toshiba/Kioxia XG6 and XG6-P blades, TRIM works fast and the blades are not so hot like the 970 EVO Plus, but it's unobtainable locally to me.

If where you live do not have scorching summer days, maybe you can avoid installing a heatsink, but probably everyone not near the Arctic will need one, even with somewhat cool blades like XG6. Clean installs and the indexing that happens right after can get a non-heatsinked blade to more than 70ºC in mere minutes.

I'd avoid any Kingston blades, the RMA process is a complete cluster**** process.

What is with the trim problems (Samsung) I heard from?

I just replaced my Samsung with a Crucial. Since last OS update start up time was around 3-4 minutes and computer would randomly freeze a couple of times an hour with the Samsung. Everything is back to normal with the Crucial. Starts up in seconds and no freezing. Should have made the switch about 6 months ago rather than swearing at Mac everyday!

What Samsung and Crucial exactly?

Samsung 970 Evo. Crucial P3. Both 1tb.
Yo @yellowbunny !

Question: Did you ever have any problems with sleeping your 6,1 Mac Pro using the Crucial P3? (-Or any other issues over the years?)

I'm just wondering because I have a 1TB Kioxia XG6 in mine currently, and I can't let it sleep for more than ~5hrs... -___- (-It just won't wake successfully after that amount of time, so I have to restart it...) And so I'm looking for a suitable replacement that will NOT suffer from this annoying issue!

Thanks! 😁 👍

Did you have the newest firmware for the MacPro? This was a fix for sleeping under Monterey.

Oh, interesting...
No, because I'm still running Mojave. 🙃 👍
(...Unless I can somehow get the newest/newer firmware still???)
(-Maintaining Mojave for the time being for 32-bit application reasons...)

Ah well, perhaps I'm stuck with this inconvenience for the time being... 🤷‍♂️

In the meantime it would be nice to somehow schedule my Mac to simply wake-up and then re-sleep if it's been asleep for, say, 3hrs. ... -Any other workaround ideas? 🥴

Anyway, thanks for that info.!

...
EDIT:
You know, I do have an Apple-original 256gb SSD with Monterey on it though.
-Can I use that to install this newest firmware you speak of, and then swap back to my main (non-Apple) SSD and expect to experience a difference? ❓

Yes.

You should try, current BootROM / System Firmwar Version is 481.0.0.0.0.

Well, conglaturation to me, because now my problem is fixed!

The weird thing is that I *already had* a firmware of 481.0.0.0.0.
The only thing I did (or could do) was upgrade from Monterey 12.7.4 --> 12.7.6.
-And then I swapped back to my Kioxia SSD...

I of course had little faith anything would change.
But wouldn't you know it? -My computer woke-up normally this morning! 😁

So I guess I assume some necessary change was tucked-into that Monterey 'security update'...

~Great job!
~And thanks for the input! 👍 👍

Cheers,
-J
