Finger print is hit or miss

I have dry finger tips and 80% of the time fingerprint id doesn't work.
I want face id on next year's MacBook air.

Edit: it is maybe 88% fail rate.

Hmmm....mine has seemed to work ok since I got it the other day? Maybe try cleaning the Touch ID surface with an appropriate cleaner?

Works 100% for me. Every time.

You are doping something wrong. It works every time.

Try rescanning it, when it asks for the edge make sure you twist and use whole end. I’m also getting 100%, so far.

Like others have said, clean the Touch ID surface and re-scan your fingers.

Another possibility is that maybe you've been using the wrong finger. Sometimes I forget that I didn't have it scan my left hand's middle finger, but use it by accident. Then I remember that finger isn't scanned for it

My M1 MBA's fingerprint reader reads my fingerprint 99% of the time. I'm 100% happy with that. I love the fact that I can unlock my laptop with just my finger each and every time.
