Fire in Chatsworth, California (personal story)

Wet winter, dry winter, in between winter. I've heard all of them blamed for increasing the fire danger.

Actually, only one weather phenomena deserves to be credited for these brush fires: Santa Ana winds. A lot of places in the world are as arid as Southern California, but they don't experience brush fires as vicious or fast-moving as ours because they don't get adiabatic winds. Ours also happen to be timed perfectly for the lowest plant moisture content. It's the perfect formula for fires. Expect more of them next week.

Hope your family is spared (and of course the others too). In the end all that matters if their persons are safe. Belongings for the most part can be replaced. And memories can survive many a disaster. As long as we have each other to lean on, talk to, that is what is important. Hoping for the best for everyone.
