Wondering what is the best Fire wire cable to use (and not very expensive). I am going from a MBP to Sony DSR-PD170.I am going to FCPX. Any advise will help

Do you mean brand or type, because the second depends on what ports you have:

I have never had problems with Firewire, HDMI, or audio cables from monoprice.com. They are also very inexpensive.

I am going from a 4-Pin to a 800 port on the computer. I am looking for a good brand and a good place to purchase.

The PD170 is FW 400. Therefore you'll either need a 4 pin FW400 --> 9 pin FW800, or a 4 pin 400 --> 6 pin 400, and then a 400 --> 800 adapter.

I was recently looking over some PD150 footage from 11 years ago. SD, but the quality is very high. That was a hell of a camera, and the 170 I suppose is a bit better.

Second the Monoprice suggestion.
