I'm not sure on his sales but he seems to be a good guy. Helped me alot picking what I wanted when I called. I wish Bell& Carlson would hurry up making those stocks, that's what takes 3 months to get it.

When I get it I'm going to break it in and then this winter send it off to CDI to get his detachable mag system installed and have the rifle skim coated while its there. Then once its back it'll be shipped off to Dallas custom reloads and have him work up a custom load for the rifle. Then this springs its go time!

I'm mostly into collecting military surplus, but I have been considering a new .308 rifle to use as a "reference" piece to compare with my surplus guns. It will probably be an off-the-shelf Tikka T3, CZ or Remington rifle.
What I'd REALLY like to get is something in .375H&H, but those are pretty much all over a grand.

Look at the Savage 10FP, I bought mine after comparing the 700PSS and the Tikka T3, and just found it to be a better rifle more to my liking.
Mine came from the factory in a McMillan fiberglass stock, the factory trigger is fully adjustable and breaks very cleanly. I am not the greatest long distance shooter and even I have managed a 1/2" five shot group.
I paid $200 less than a 700PSS as well.
Thanks, yeah its a splurge for sure. I had bought a Marlin XS7 .308, which is a fantastic .308 for $300 OTD. After shooting it once I was bitten by the big bore bug. I ordered the SniperCentral rifle the next day.. haha
My next rifle (sometime next year) will be a stock Rem. 700 SPS Tactical only in .223. I'll just buy the same scope as the .308 and probably hold off on the stock upgrade for awhile to keep costs down (the B&C stock is $440 or so by itself)
I should have got my S/C package in .223 but oh well. I didnt' realize how expensive prairie dog hunting with a .308 would be compared to .223. Lesson learned. I guess I'll just use my .17HMR for up to 250 yards and use the .308 for those long range dogs.
Maybe I'll take some decent pics of all my guns this weekend and post them here.

Like I said before, I'm not a big fan of the .223/5.56mm myself. It's a low-recoil, flat-shooting cartridge which means it will always be popular.
But I prefer the higher power of a full-sized rifle cartridge. To be fair, for "varmint" hunting the .223 is probably one of the best options out there in terms of availability/cost/performance taken as a whole.
I'm a big fan of the classic military smokeless cartridges like the 6.5mm, 7mm and 8mm(7.92x57) Mauser cartridges, and the astonishingly long-lived 7.62x54R. The weakest rifle cartridge I currently own is 7.62x39mm for the SKS, although one of these days I will break down and get a .22LR rifle for cheap plinking.
If I had more cash to burn I'd probably get myself a rifle in .338 Lapua in addition to that .375 H&H I mentioned earlier.

I'm just curious, how much does a m16 cost in the US, and isn't it illegal to own an automatic weapon? Can a civilian buy an F16 FighterJet? 😕😕

Most of what you see as "M16s" are actually AR-15s. They are semiautomatic lookalikes. They cost in the $800-$2000+ range. For the most part these are unrestricted (some states like California have a problem with them). You can own automatic weapons with the proper paperwork, fees, and background checks. There's at least one private F-16, obviously minus the weapons systems.

Just as a follow up, there are quite a few fully automatic M16s legally owned by private citizens. Cost? the gun itself will set you back somewhere between $15,000-$25,000+ in addition to a one-time $200 tax and a LOT of paperwork.
Plus whatever it would cost to insure it.
The semi-auto AR-15s are 100% identical to the M16s minus several full-auto fire control components and a receiver that can't accept said components.

An automatic 'M16' type, legal Class 3 is 15,000 - 25,000 depending on condition. The reason is that in 1986, the .gov made all existing users register them and banned new automatics from entering the system. Econ 101 happens, constrained supply, increase in demand, and wammo - 20,000 $ guns .
If I were in the market I think I'd go for a drop in autosear instead of a full M16 that way you could put it in multiple guns..

Drop in sears almost always suck, and cost almost as much as a Pre-86 form-4 M16 lower.
Also "class 3" is not the correct term when referring to machine guns. Class 3 is what a SOT has to be in order to posses post-86 machine guns. A pre-86 machine gun is no different than any other NFA item, it's not in a different class, and it's the same stamp as a suppressor, destructive device, or short barreled rifle/shotgun.
What happened in 1986 is the BATFE stopped taking new Form-1's allowing people to register new machine guns as NFA items as part of the Gun Owners Protection act. All machine guns legally owned were already registered with the BATFE as a NFA item and a $200 tax stamp was paid at the time of transfer or manufacture. Only registered guns can be transfered on a Form 4, unless you're a class 3 SOT (special occupations taxpayer), in which case you can have a post-86 machine gun be transfered to you on a Form 3 with no tax but with a demo letter from a local police department.
Personally I figured that it was less expensive to get a FFL and SOT so I could legally make some of the machine guns I was interested in at a greatly reduced cost to what it would cost me to purchase one. A F4 German MG42 is good condition is about $22,000, yet the cost to get a business started is about $6,000 plus about $700 in yearly taxes for the FFL and SOT. Cost of the kit and parts is about $900. This comes with several disadvantages such as a loss of privacy at the business location and increased storage restrictions, but with the gain of many advantages such as being able to make, purchase and transfer post-86 machine guns and other NFA items at reduced cost and without paying transfer taxes.

Transferable MG42s are very expensive - the latest ones I've seen up for sale are over $30k. Very expensive to shoot given the high rate of fire too.
Making and selling post-86 guns must be a pretty small industry, unless you are getting military/law enforcement contracts.

I am moving out of the city next year to a piece of property I inherited about 30 miles away. About a week ago the county finally approved my permits for both a small house and a good size shop that I figured I would use for the purpose of running a business out of. The biggest downside to having any sort of FFL (and especially a SOT) is the total lack of privacy for the place of business. The BATFE can come and pay a visit any time they want, dig through records, strip search the place, ect. After I get settled in I am going to look at getting my 07 FFL to start off with (which can still take months) then move on to getting my 02 SOT the following year. Like I said, it's a major pain in the ass that comes with a lot of downsides so I am going to take a long hard look at how much I really want the fun of making and selling machine guns and suppressors before I even start the paperwork.
Anyway, MG42's had different firing rates based on the weight of the bolt body and recoil spring. A heavier bolt and lighter weight return spring can lower the firing rate down to a more manageable 800RPM which is still pretty high, but a lot easier on the pocketbook than 1500RPM.
Is that a Kartsen cheek piece on the M1A? I've been talking to karsten about maybe getting one for my marlin .308 that I want a bit of a better cheek weld on. Any advice?
Also how do you like the streamlight on the glock? I wanna get a light for my G19 but don't want to break the bank.

Good luck! Personally I don't think it's worth the expense unless you planning to go into business, as you said you are. Then it makes sense, since you can make some money out of the deal.
The FFL I use for most of my transfers is a class III SOT, he specializes in machine pistols like the MAC series (blech), but if I was going to buy a full auto I would set up a corporation (probably with other interested collectors) and use that to buy transferable stuff.
True - though to be honest, for what that thing costs I would want the higher rate of fire...if you can spring for a MG that costs tens of thousands of dollars, whats a couple thousand more for some cases of 8mm? 🙂
