Firefox today announced the launch of Firefox 100, the newest version of the popular browser that serves as an alternative to Safari and Chrome. Firefox 100 brings new features for both mobile devices and the desktop to enhance the browsing experience.

On Macs, Firefox 100 supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) video for higher-fidelity video content. The feature requires a Mac with an HDR-compatible display that's running macOS 11 or later. Also new to the desktop, there are subtitles and captions when using Picture-in-Picture mode. Subtitles and captions are available on websites that support the WebVTT format, such as YouTube, Netflix, and Prime Video.

A new language switching feature allows Firefox to detect a device's language preference and ask whether a user would like to switch to their preferred language, and credit card autofill functionality has now expanded to the UK, France, and Germany.

As for iOS devices, the update brings clutter-free history and clutter-free tabs for better organization, plus it includes new browser wallpapers for personalization. The history feature groups history items by the original item, so you can, for example, find all the websites you visited under a specific search term. History is also now searchable.

To cut down on tab clutter, Firefox for iOS will now focus on recent tabs in the tab tray to make it easier to swap between what's current. When a tab hasn't been visited in 14 days, it is moved to an "inactive state" in the tab tray. In that situation, the tab is available, but out of the way until you need it.

The updated version of Firefox for Macs can be downloaded from the Firefox website, and the iOS version can be downloaded from the App Store. The iOS features will be available later this week.

Asking the important question here:
Did they finally update the dock icon to the "new" (uhh.. almost, since Big Sur, that's released 1,5 year ago) style?

No they've specifically stated (I think I saw on the subreddit or one of the developer bug things on their site) that they think having the icon stick out like a sore thumb is apart of their "brand identity". They are really convinced it matters that the icon stays the classic shape for some reason even though its still completely recognizable if its just inside a rounded square. I think its the dumbest excuse ever to act like the shape of the icon is what is keeping the browser relevant in any way lol.

Yeah they even closed the bug item on their platform about it, because they were tired of people asking. Meanwhile it's the only app in my dock that isn't updated according to Apple's Human Interface Guidelines. I love Firefox and the world needs a browser like that, but not updating or giving some dumb excuse is just plain lazy.

I'm a devout Firefox user but it's not clear how much longer Mozilla can keep the project going with their market share in the single-digits and still falling. It'll be a sad day if and when they finally discontinue development.
I have been a devout FF user for as long as I can remember. You should have seen how much I fought against having to install Chrome to test an internal CRM because that was the only supported browser. It is not perfect, but it is such a great browser and, as another poster pointed out, there is no other real competition for Chromium in the browser space.

That’s why Firefox is declining— many talented developers work for it but refuse to accept opinions from casual users.

you can change it in like 3 clicks.

FF is great for privacy and features. But really....for version 100 they couldn't have given it an updated macOS icon with rounded corners?
Exactly! You would think they'd take the opportunity to introduce a new icon to mark such a huge milestone. They did say they'll update it eventually but don't have the resources to do so just yet, which I think is complete bull.

Firefox has the best (and only?) baked-in screenshot tool for websites. I use it constantly for work stuff, especially if I need to send out full page captures for review.

Opera is another one that has yet to update its icon.

EDIT: Oh, and Steam. Also, just for the record, I am okay with them not updating their icon.

Now Apple needs to allow iOS developers to release their own browsers with their own code and not the safari web kit.

Someone might actually build a better browser and could also be released for older devices running older iOS versions restoring a modern browser to them.
