Firefox 3.0 distorting text

Hello,

I'm having trouble with Firefox 3.0. My FF was fine although acting a little funky so I upgraded and when I did, it began to distort text on certain sites, such as Wikipedia, like this:

The text in the stand-alone application of Yahoo chat also likes to distort the text in this way.

I had a previous Mac powerbook that did the same thing in Safari and I just suffered through it. Does anybody know how to fix this? My feeling is that it was some setting in the computer as opposed to Firefox but I could be mistaken.
