Can you explain what's not working? I click on "Read Wikipedia in your language" and a huge list of languages scrolls down into view.

It's working, it's just that I don't like the seemingly arbitrary height of the pop-up menu (this is common behaviour in Windows) when it could be as tall as the display allows – that's how Safari does it which I think is much better and more Mac like.

I only use a second browser (Chrome) for 4k YouTube playback which brings me to my question: Does Firefox also support 4k YT playback and if so: How is the performance compared to when watching a 4k video on Chrome?

They employed CoreAnimation API after 13 years. Am I too demanding to expect it sooner?
Firefox still doesn't have fundamental MacOS things like elastic scrolling (introduced in 2011) and dark context menus in dark mode. MacOS doesn't seem like the primary focus of development. Even Opera feels more like a native MacOS app on recent versions of MacOS.

That being said, you can't expect an open-source project like Firefox to have the same resources as one maintained by a company the size of Google.

I might actually hurry out and upgrade? It is all good news to me. As it is, firefox can nearly max out my 16gb ram with multiple tabs open, and i have been annoyed how "closing" the window doesnt free up these resources, atleast not eight away.

Some may say i should use a different browser, but i wont use chrome, because i am working on having less google in my life, i never liked safari.....

Oh yeah, maybe this means B&H website wont brick firefox? Ive had that problem concictently. Not sure why.

Awesome. They finally fixed their stupid password manager. This is now my default browser again!

The "not feeling like native Mac OS" is probably the thing i like about it!

(And obviously mac OS is not their primary focus, because it is the minority of the user base...)

Firefox suffered from a "single codebase across multiple platforms" problem for years. To adopt pure macOS (or Mac OS X) tech would have been a deviation. Firefox has improved drastically the past couple of years to look and feel more like a *native* Mac app.
That "native" macOS look is nail deep really and feels like they tried to Aquafy a Windows or Linux app by slapping some macOS-ish interface elements on the main window. Contextual menus, animations, roll out windows and what not all look and feel off. Firefox offers just about zero integration with macOS services like spelling and text substitutions which is really annoying. I also really dislike they use Dutch lingo straight from Windows instead of using the right macOS terminology.

I tried to give Firefox another chance but trashed it after noticing all this.

Missing text services is something that I do not like as well. Especially text completion. But what I found now weird, and it is bit of topic, that other Mozllla project Thunderbird mail. I found now that when I use sharing button in Safari it will normally offer Thunderbird for sending page by email but on another place within macOSis option missing or launch Apple Mail.
What is odd is that there is no place in Settings to se up default email client same as browser. You have to launch Mail to set it. I have not tried to delete mail, what it will do then.

And also this graph should have been in the news post. Everbody loves graphs ;)

I've been thinking of trying Firefox as my main browser for some time but now I'm glad I didn't! 😂

Firefox has been my main Windows browser since the early 00s, and my alternate-when-Safari-doesn't-work browser for just as long and it's finally fixed all the gripes I had with it!
I use Safari 90% of the time, but My Alternative has been Opera. If you use data bases like JAMF Opera performs 10X faster than any browser. Unfortunately the Fox does not work with data bases well.

Hmm was there something wrong with it? I never noticed an issue in Windows ... barely used it on Mac long enough ... yet I think I'll give it a try.

Windows, Microsoft's Edge Beta based on Chromium is REALLY fast: faster for both intranet and internet sites on Window 10 Enterprise 1903 or LTSB which is phased out! Chromium seems slightly faster than Chrome - since no Google overhead yet both debuted about the same time that I recall (there is a reason for the same icon since each launched). Not a fan for using either ... so it's the MS Beta vs FF on Windows at work.

I'm STILL upset Cook's Apple pulled the plug on Windows' Safari - it really could've been a lure Apple customers that must work in a windows corporate world.

On iOS and OSX it's Safari first and foremost ... FireFox haven't tried in a long while so may give it another try.

I installed Firefox last night and it definitely is slow and buggy. It made my mouse not want to work (slow/frozen cursor and buttons not working). And it acted weird on certain sites like this one. I had to click on the back button several times just to go back one page.

The more I think about it, FireFox might be why my 2010 Mac mini and my 2 Windows computers run slow. It did cause issues with my 2018 mini last night.

It just wouldn’t remember passwords for certain sites and there was no way to enter that information manually. With Firefox 70, they’ve integrated it with their password manager Lockwise ... and now you can enter them manually if Firefox doesn’t ask to save your password when you log in. My passwords are all very randomly generated and impossible to remember, so this was a big issue for me, but now it’s fixed.

does this new password manager allow sync'ing on iOS for FF or FF's private browser (in purple colour I forget the name)?

Thank you.

It syncs passwords with Firefox on iOS. There’s no account syncing with Firefox Focus. But you can install the Lockwise app on iOS and use it to fill in passwords since it syncs with your Firefox account and you can use auto-fill with any browser.

now we have a "unique"name ? Why not just bundle it all under "tracking"? people know what that is already...

We must have a different name only because not only does it separate tracking from" this other", but it also brings to light "what has been missed"

all i gotta say is.. well done :p I honesty don't think people care that its a sepration.. as the amjority only care about privacy as a global scale...

I can't speak for everyone, bur for me, it's either a FULL privacy, or not.

WHen your main goal is supposed to BE privacy there never should be exceptions.Perhaps i should alloow some, but if i did, how could i still believe in privacy ?

It's a really solid browser that I would recommend to everyone and anyone over anything Chromium-based (much less Google Chrome itself, yuck). But for me personally... Integration is something I prize quite highly. Not only does Firefox look out of place (this probably shouldn't be a big deal, but it is to me), but it's not able to, say, add images directly to Photos, and it relies on Pocket for its reading list, rather than having something inbuilt which is also searchable from Spotlight and Alfred with zero configuration or friction. Safari just plays much better with everything else on the Mac, so it ends up being my browser of choice.
