Firefox for iOS Gets Built-In Ad Blocker

Too bad Safari doesn’t have this natively. Besides the ad blocker, don’t forget the lovely:

SponsorBlock — automatically skips the “This video is sponsored by…” slop.
DeArrow — gets rid of those ridiculous clickbait YouTube thumbnails and replaces them with more accurate ones based on the actual video.

The only one left standing is a general short-video slop blocker. Haven’t found a decent one yet.

Basically, if you're on a site and the site displays an ad that originates from the same domain (ie., a Dell ad on a Dell website) that won't be blocked, but most ads on most sites come from ad sources and those WILL be blocked (ie., an ad for a dietary supplement on a blog page).
 
finally, switched to firefox a few weeks ago on macOS but couldn't make the switch on iOS yet.

update: it's not visible in the settings -> browsing screen on firefox 155 on iOS 🙁

A good first step towards making adblocking easier for the general masses! I, personally, use Safari with Adguard, but I'm happy for those who use FF. Great work!

I tried their beta before and saw that ads on YouTube and Reddit still exist.

Actually before ad blocking is introduced there's an Strict Enhanced Tracking Protection which can already block most of the ads on websites (because almost none of the ads do not track). It's just implemented better and the websites are shown more beautifully.
 
This would have never happened under Steve Jobs. John Ternus is ruining Apple. 😂😅🤣 sorry just trying to be ahead of the curve with this old refrain. I’m happy this is a thing I guess but I want it to run on gecko and have full extension support like it does in Android.

Meh, I have a life time sub, but that thing breaks stuff to often. If their DNS is having issues, it can just break things. Or if I switch from Wifi, to cell....there is a noticeable lag/pause. Pod casts stop working, cell phone calls will drop etc.

Not to mention in the back of my head they are a Russian company and while I have never found anything about them being tied to bad things.....Safari plus Ublock Orgin lite gets the job done.

How does Firefox ad blocking work compared to say Brave or Duckduckgo?

I love Firefox, been using it since their first days and use it in everything except iOS (for sync tabs, logins etc) that version is just gimped in comparison. I wish Mozilla wld get the finger out and release the proper version, they have the resources.

You do realize the distinction between a web engine and a web browser right? A browser provides the surrounding features, such as history syncing, password management, bookmarking, and related functions.
 
I really like Firefox on desktop and even use it on MacOS over Safari but I'm still not liking the iOS app very much. Small design things like the amount of space the tabs bar takes up annoys me.

I've been using Adguard extension and local VPN setup on iOS and that works pretty well at removing ads from Safari and all my other apps.

I'm also confused, is Firefox a skin for Safari or is it its own engine? I read that in the EU, Apple has to allow other competing browser engines but not sure if that is true in the US or not.
