First, try a permissions repair from Disk Utility. Then, if that does not work, try and reinstall it.

Yes it's beachballing. All the time. I will try this permission repair too. Because I switched to Safari since SL because of this.
it doesnt show up as an app. how can that be?
Im not sure what you mean by that...
Applications folder -> Utilities -> Disk Utility -> Repair tab
Download the latest Performance Update from Apple in Software Update if it's available to you.
