Firefox 98 for iOS devices introduces a new customizable mobile experience in the form of an adjustable search bar that can be set at the bottom or the top of the iPhone's display.

This brings the mobile Firefox browser in line with Safari, which gained an option to move the search bar to the top or the bottom with iOS 15. Apple in iOS 15 tweaked the design of Safari and initially made a change that put the search bar permanently at the bottom of the app, but it was unpopular and ultimately walked back, with iPhone and iPad users now able to choose their preferred orientation.

Firefox 98 also introduces new mobile wallpapers inspired by Disney+ movie "Turning Red," with the wallpaper available through a partnership with Disney.

Firefox for iOS can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

Interestingly, while I was opposed to the idea of a search bar / address field on the bottom of the browser, I've left it enabled and have gotten so used to it that I couldn't go back to a search bar on top. But only on the iPhone. On all my other devices (iPad, macOS devices) Safari is set to the classical style without any gimmicks.

It's because our phones are too big for one-handed browsing with the search bar at the top, especially for someone like me who was smaller hands. Bottom bar search / controls is optimal for mobile devices.

I thought that we could have the search bar at the bottom on iPhones only, while it still always stays on top on iPads?

It says a lot that the position of a search bar on some third party software is headline news on MacRumors?

We couldn't care less about firefox. I loved the first mozilla, then firefox when I use to have linux as a main OS. But as a MacOS user, safari is a satisfying experience. Light, fast, simple.
I like Safari too but everyone should care about the browser market being as diverse as possible. Many of the features you enjoy in Safari came about from other browsers.

“We?”

Safari is my still my main browser, but I think a healthy Firefox / Mozilla is very important for the entire tech industry. I do think it would be nice to see “real” Firefox aka Gecko on iOS and not the Safari skin as well, but I understand Apple’s rationale for security.

Too many websites will not render properly in Safari to use it as my only browser. Firefox is my back-up and it works on ANY website. If Safari wasn't so integrated with Apple products, Firefox would be my main browser

I haven't received the Firefox 98 update yet.. App store says the most recent version is 97 not 98... Guess it hasn't been released yet and MR jumped the gun.

Too bad its ad/tracker/fingerprinting blocking is still trash. Yeah, Apple's to blame partially for that but I would at least expect the (mediocre) level of privacy that the iOS version of the Brave browser offers.
