I just bought a Mac, an iBook 12 inch and have some questions:
Is Mac OS X firewall trust worthy or should I buy a separate firewall and AV like Norton Internet security?
The disk checking tools are good or should I also buy others?
Have any tips to give?

ipfw is a pretty good firewall. However, Apple's built-in control for it is less then useless. Learn to control it via the command line or use a GUI like SunShield or BrickHouse. To it, add the protection of Little Snitch. You're golden.

Norton Utilities/Internet Security, what a joke. Norton sucks. Don't even waste mental energy thinking about it. Well maybe an AV..

There are currently no Mac OS X viruses. Any AV you get will likely go unused and be worthless for a while. Though, IMO, it cannot hurt you to have it and might save your bacon one day..

Do yourself a favor and get either Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior.
