Mmm, maybe that's why my iMac refuses to sleep all the time...

I'll unplug the scanner when it's not used then (what a technological achievement !)

Told you USB sucks :D

And whats wrong with a little heat? (if any), as you previous post said? My PB doesn't sterilize me everytime I charge my ipod (using FW)... FW is faster and provides more power, which is a good thing.

my canon bus powered scanner has always been flakey and caused sleep problems. firewire owns usb 2's ass, i'm glad i got a motherboard with fw 400 and 800 on it for my pc.

Hey, I used to use a MacAlly iMedia keyboard. I would shutdown the machine at night and as soon as I turned out the light, the machine would power up because the keyboard was flaky.

I feel ya.

Ok I'm really a geek, but those benchmarks I just ran... yeah i used Keynote to make a chart out of them, here it is if you want to see it.

More interesting to me that the substantial advantage of FW400 over USB is the fairly small additional benefit that FW800 provides. Sure, faster is better, and if you have mega-amounts of data, every speedbump counts. But it's not screeming to me "you need FW800 . . . come buy me".

Woops, my mistake, my (technology-dyslexic ?) brain read from your previous posts "FW does not provide as much power as USB", got it the wrong way around...

All my FW gizmos have their own power-supply, so it doesn't create extra-heat from the machine in my case...

Now, about "a little heat", I can tell you my iMac cannot be mistaken with an air-conditioner, unless you talk about the part of the air-conditioner which usually sticks in the street and steam-cooks you when you walk by. Additionally, it is in the warmest room of my house (not so much luck there...)

Waiting for the winter, so I can finally enjoy the extra-effect in a cold room... ;)

I agree, I always thought "FW800 = 2 x faster than FW400", I'm glad this kind of reasoning never pushed me into investing into FW800...
