I have a late 2014 iMac here, and an external G-drive that has both USB 2.0 and FW800 ports.

The drive still has a lot of life left in it despite the dated connections and Im not really looking to get rid of it.

I am looking for a FW800 to Thunderbolt 2 cable and am coming up empty. The closest thing I can find is the apple branded adapter which is more than i want to spend, especially when you add in the fact that I will also still need an addition FW800 cable to use with that adapter.

Suggestions?

I have an old drive with FW800, FW400, and USB2. I just use the USB. FW400 is supposedly a little faster, but not enough to make a difference. FW800 would be twice as fast, but still much slower than something more modern, so it isn't suitable for anything critical, therefore might as well just accept the slower USB for convenience.

thanks..But its more about supply power to the one drive. It does have 12 volt power supply input, but I don't have an extra and Im also trying to reduce the number of items i have plugged into outlets.

Guess I'll just either have to go that route or just buy a new drive...

Thunderbolt and firewire are 2 different things altogether. So it is not simply a matter of cable.
You won't be able to connect the two without that TB2 to FW adapter.

Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter is as cheap as it gets ($40). After that, you can spend $200 on a Thunderbolt dock or PCIe enclosure. Thunderbolt is not cheap.

The Apple adapter is your only option for this.

Absolutely. This adapter should work fine. I have firewire 400 audio interface attached to thunderbolt 2 and works great (firewire 400->800 cable, then fw800-> thunderbolt 2 adapter).

You can complain about the prices of Apple's adapters, but they work. I've got old VGA monitors and FW400 devices attached to Thunderbolt 3 ports with a chains of adapters :)

"Suggestions?"

If you want to use the drive "as a firewire drive", then buy the Apple adapter.
If you don't want to pay for a new one, buy a used one.

Or... just use the USB2 connector...
