I am looking for a firewire and have a question about a buying a tape.

I need a firewire cable for a Canon ZR960. Where would I purchase one?
I also need a tape. Do certain tapes go with certain camcorders, or can I just use any?

Links, Price, or Recommendations are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Your MBP has a Firewire (FW) 800 port with 9 pins.

Your camera has a so-called FW 4-pin port.

You need a 4-pin to 9-pin FW cable.

Any miniDV tape should suffice, but sometimes Canon cameras don't like the tapes made by Sony.

Shopping can be done via a local electronics retailer or many online shops.

miniDV tapes
Firewire 4-pin to 9-pin cable - those cables should be had for around 9€.

Awesome Reply

Great response. Pictures, links, and descriptions. So currently I am bidding on a ZR960, have favorite'd a 4-9 pin firewire cable, and am watching 3 60m tapes @9.99+5$shipping.

Are those tapes worth what they want?

Looking@ These.

Sorry. Heres a link to what I'm looking at.

It says in the title that they are for the ZR960.
I'm sure I could buy these from newegg or Amazon also, or from the canon site itself. Tell me if these look good please.

Almost forgot..here is the firewire cable that I picked out.

Looking forward to the next post,
thanks.

Yes, that cable will work, also it is a bot on the expensive side of things.

And those tapes will work too, but there are no tapes made specifically for any type of camera. They are universal, but sometimes certain cameras can't operate with certain kind of tapes, as some cameras for example don't like Sony tapes.

Can you show me a cheaper cable?

The camera ought to come with a cable, so why don't you wait until you receive it and see if the seller included it before you spend the money on it?
Also, you can buy MiniDV tapes anywhere, even wallmart.
