Not sure if this is a Mac OS X issue or hardware issue.

I have an external drive using a Prolific Tech chip which can be connected firewire OR USB.

When connected firewire (which is almost twice as fast as USB), when my Macbook goes to sleep the drive sometimes won't wake up.

If I connect the drive using USB, I don't have this problem.

I saw a similar reference on this site from 2005 but nothing recent. Is it a hardware problem with this chipset or a known issue with Mac OS X and firewire drives?

Thanks

Having never used a drive that didn't use the Oxford 911 or 922 chipset, I really don't know. I'd assume this is an issue with the enclosure's chipset, though, since none of the externals I've ever owned had a problem like that.
