people bitching about lack of firewire on the new macbook, have no right to complain.

apple is trying to seperate the market on their models, each model has its own advantage and uses.

get the pro if you need it for video editing, 'pro' users, and looking like tools at starbucks.

I'm tired of these Appleserf comments. FireWire 400 is a CONSUMER technology.

Heck, even FW800 is consumer, in the same way eSATA is.

ALL Analog-to-DV Converters use Firewire. Audio and Video go in, FireWire comes out.
You CAN NOT Transfer ANY type of Video Tape (VHS, DV etc.) without Firewire.

Actually you should check out EyeTV 250+, you can transfer VHS and I believe (but have not tried) that if your camera has composite cables with it like mine did you would be able to record that as well onto your Mac using a USB port. I didn't even think about this till I read your post and the only thing I really use FW for is transferring video. However that's only cause I can't afford a FW hard drive and it would have to be a FW400/USB at least if I were to get an external drive w/ FW.

...perhaps you haven't noticed the considerable price difference between the MB and MBP or maybe you didn't notice the size difference between the MB and MBP but just because one thing suits you doesn't mean it suits everyone which is why most people complaining about the new MB/MBPs are essentially just asking for options.

Obviously you don't have even the slightest idea about how computer technology works.

maybe you are the one with no idea... if you place a new macbook hd on another mac with firewire it will work, just try how it works with the ethernet adapter, the drivers are already in the system.

What the heck has putting a computer in "FireWire enclosure mode" have to do
with having a host work with a mythical ethernet/FireWire converter without need for any additional drivers?

i said if you PLACE a macho hd... you know... you take the hard drive and put it inside of another mac? that easy ??? i never said TD mode, the hardware must support it but you need to have a FW port embedded to your board.

What does this have to do with drivers for an ethernet/firewire converter and audio/video equipment???

I never talked about audio/video drivers... i talking about recognizing and supporting firewire

I'm not talking about audio/video drivers, either. I'm talking about drivers for tunneling FireWire through ethernet.

read again the black letters... yah they look cool but they can give you and answer too

it's not when you OS support it and comes with the drivers... it doesn't need to be in the hardware to be compatible

No such mythical FireWire converter exists, so the MacBook will remain incompatible for as long as this is the case.

guys. let´s just close that firewire case. i´ve been reading it for days now and before we rename the site trollrumors let´s just let it be. most consumer cameras you can buy by next year will be all usb. that´s because usb won the big market. the pc market. yes firewire is better for drives and streaming video in realtime. mb users who still have a dv cam should just pick the cheapest book available while it´s still there (and that won´t be long) else i´d consider shelling out the bucks for the pro book or an imac (which should even be cheaper). sure it´s harsh if you had 16 fw drives stacked up your room. but well if someone remembers scsi it´s nothing new. the game changes from time to time. and even though i don´t like it. usb3 will eat firewire next year. so move on. my 5 cent

i'm not talking about the ****ing converter, i'm talking about the firewire itself, the drivers inside the OS kernel... the "mythical converter" could work if it exists could... but honestly i don't care if it works or not, thats not my point, my point is that FW is still supported by mac os X leopard what comes installed in the new aluminum macbooks, even if they not came with the fw, all the drivers and extensions are there, sleeping, waiting for some one to comes and unleash the the force inside

Can you use a FireWire device with the MacBook today? NO. So, it's NOT COMPATIBLE WITH FIREWIRE

I started reading this thread thinking it would be two immature people arguing over stupid things. But it's not like that at all. Carlos, stop while you're behind.
