Not working

Downloaded the file and comes up with the message that says 'Not for your system'(not exact wording)

So I checked by SMC version just in case and it still is only 1.58f16 so clearly it is not up to date...

So I got excited for no reason? What's the point of saying it's for all mid 2010 laptops when it's not working for any of us?

You can check if it applies here

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237

It isn't installing for the computers that its made for. The Mid 2010 15" and 17" MacBook Pros will not install the Update. The Installer tells the User its not for their computer when in fact it is.

MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.9

This update is recommended for all 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro mid 2010 models. The update resolves a rare issue that may cause the system to freeze during startup or intermittently stall during operation, and it improves compatibility with external displays.

The MacBook Pro EFI Update will update the EFI firmware on your MacBook Pro. Your computer's power cord must be connected and plugged into a working power source. When your MacBook Pro restarts a gray screen will appear with a status bar to indicate the progress of the update. It will take several minutes for the update to complete. Do not disturb or shut off the power on your MacBook Pro during this update.

installed fine on my mid-2010 15" i7...

Spaces seems more fluent no more jitter. I have had the gfx update installed before today.

I never had a real problem with it before. Full Screening a 1080p youtube causes a short pause still, but nothing more than 2 seconds.

From my understanding this isn't the problem that is addressed...

That "pause" you experience is the Intel HD switching to Nvidia. Seems like a common occurrence.

Looks like update only applies to those with 0057.B05 but not with B0A.
But I guess we will have to see.

Actually this is the problem demonstrated. When it goes full screen on 1080p, it switches to the 330m. Thats where the pause comes in.

I have not seen the issues that people seem to be having of "2minute" pauses. Then again, i havent seen much in terms of issues with this box.

My iMac "pauses" when going full screen on a YouTube video. I think it's just flash sucking. :p

On my 15" i7 MacBook Pro, the boot ROM went from version MBP61.0057.B09 to MBP61.0057.B0C. Curiously enough, the Nvidia GeForce GT 330M ROM also went from 3540 to 3560. My system also just booted after the update faster than it ever has before.

Looks like they only check the following

MBP61.88Z.0057.B00.1003040836
MBP61.88Z.0057.B05.1003191134
MBP61.88Z.0057.B07.1004071225
MBP61.88Z.0057.B09.1004161215
MBP61.88Z.0057.B0B.1007091039

Based on the script inside the update. (source)

The SuperDrive update from last year didn't upgrade my iMac's drive firmware even though my iMac was in the list of models that "needed" the update. Apple released a new version of the update with the new firmware for my drive. Chances are that Apple will update the update if your system is affected and isn't updated by this update.
It may help to give them a call, I did.

I too am not getting the update to work in my 17" MBP mid 2010. I have a i7 in it and a 7200 RPM Hitachi Drive. I tried the manual DL and it also wouldn't take. Very strange.
