Firmware Update?

Is the iPhone firmware automatically updated somehow or does it have to be done by the iPhone user (when syncing or using iTunes, etc.)? I have a new iPhone and haven't yet updated the firmware, so I'm not familiar with the process. Thanks!

Using iTunes, just like your iPod. It should come up in iTunes when you sync.

And if it doesn't there will probably be a new version of iTunes you'll have to download from Apple.

Updating your firmware is optional.
