That… thing, it traumatized me.
Apple experimenting with the look of the camera cluster shows they know one of the best ways of motivating people to upgrade their phones is making it look different from the previous two or three generations. The iPhone is due for a visual change, but it’s always possible that this design that “traumatized” you could be for next year’s 17 Pro.

100% will be vertical to record video for the AVP
Except that the lenses aren't far enough apart for 3-D. Leave it to Apple to repeat a blunder made by others 10 years ago.

Nah. It will force people to shoot videos in landscape like proper cultured people. I can't stand those vertical videos What kind of philistine shoots videos in portriat oriention?😑
We can only hope. Had Apple anticipated people's stupidity (or reacted quickly to it), they could have prevented idiotic door-shaped videos by showing the video sideways on the screen if you hold your phone in the wrong orientation.

Torch? Island? Wow, that's confusing.

Yes, the flash is outside camera module. Wonder how case manufacturers will handle this. Making a case with triangle cut-out perhaps? That would be unique for iPhone.
As a non English speaker, as far as I know, British people say torch, and Americans say flashlight. I refer by those names to the flash LED because, honestly, that’s the main function in my use case: 🔦

As for the island… I think we can call the camera module an island, right? It’s an elevated portion of the back of the phone. But, yeah, I give you this one, much better the “camera module” term.

It's gonna be the ugliest iPhone ever since iPhone 6.

Remember how much the iPhone 6 sucked because the camera stuck out?

It was so nice compared to the crap we've got now. It barely stuck out at all.

I wish they'd just make the phone thick enough that the cameras could be flush again. As a bonus, we could have a LOT longer battery life.

Oh, and the rounded edges of the 6 were so much nicer than the sharp edges on the 5. It sucks that they went back to that awful design, you've GOT to put them in a case for them to be even remotely comfortable to hold.

AMEN. Apple continues to insult people with their idiotic "camera bumps," as if the phone is any thinner than its thickest point.

HUGE NO. Rounded edges are idiotic. Why do you want a device that wants to flip out of your grip all the time?

Androids are only ugly to iPhone people until Apple's design resembles an Android, then it's beautiful.

"You're going to love it!" -TC
Please tell me what iPhone looks like an android. You forget android Oem usually copy iPhones but more uglier. Samsung galaxy were knockoffs the first 5 versions lmao.

Android phones are ugly af. The last great design of android was like 2017 with htc. Sony as well.

Looks like it will indeed be vertical camera layout. Hopefully the colours are brighter this year.

Still just a dual camera system, in 2024!!!

How long can Apple milk this?? There are phones the same price and cheaper from competitors that already have better camera systems with more lenses and options on the market.

If the screen is another 60hz and not the industry standard 120hz this year, that will be insulting.

What really annoys me is when people say ‘oh but people buy it and Apple don’t need to offer a better product if people are still buying a gimped one’… Well no, actually that is not alright, we are consumers and we should be making these companies aware that we want the best product available, not give them a free pass due to some strange love affair with a brand.

I hope that image is a fake and the standard iPhone is actually finally moving with the times.

So can an iPhone 12 record special video as the cameras are like this. But maybe not in the Ultra HD like a 16 will.

A little over the top, so I take that first part back. But moaning about junk like the refresh rate of a phone screen spurs vendors to cater to it, instead of spending time and resources on truly useful features.

The refresh rate I mentioned is pretty much an industry standard and Apple already provide it on their best iPhones. Putting it on their standard phones would not prevent development in other areas at all. How about they actually pay attention to the market and see 60hz is only offered on the very cheapest smartphones £100-£300, and Apples medium tier £800-£1100 smartphones. All the smartphones competing in the mid tier have it.

We are consumers and should be looking to have the best for the money, not giving them a free pass because some adore the brand in some unhealthy sort of way. Its 2024.

Come on, that's a crock. Nobody needs to view icons or scroll at 120 FPS. It's a useless gimmick, not "best." Why don't you call for better battery life, which would be made possible by bringing the back of the phone out flush with the asinine "camera bumps" and using the extra volume for battery? Or for the return of Touch ID? Or a goddamned headphone jack?

Your useless gimmick is my preference and your wants are my useless gimmicks.

Except of course I stated why, and you didn't. Let's take a poll on who thinks greater battery life is more useful than icons sitting there at 120 FPS.

I did state why, you just dismissed it because you don’t mind slower scrolling and a less sharp visual experience. That’s fine, but you spoke as fact and insulted me from the very first response.

If you want lesser specs on the mid tier iPhones and don’t want them to get in line with industry standards that’s fine, you could even buy older devices if that makes the experience even more traditional, but i’ll stick with the Pro models with better specs. Some of us like to see the range improve for the costs Apple charge though.
