Been very common in London over the last few years - easy to steal, easy to ride and easy to escape on as you can manoeuver them through busy traffic, on the pavement or down narrow alleyways. And there's no doubt that the gangs involved in these moped crimes are thugs - attacking people with hammers and throwing acid into people's faces to steal their mopeds.

These aren't biker gangs undertaking criminal activities, they are criminal gangs who just happen to be using mopeds.

Be a bit of work to get all those mopeds in the one night. Good hustle kids.
[doublepost=1510603277][/doublepost]I'm thinking that Andrea lady needs to install thicker and bullet proof glass at the retrofitted stores.

Throwing acid into people’s faces? I have heard of that happening in context of domestic violence, but now it’s a means to rob people as well? Vile. Please tell me the penalties for throwing acid in people’s faces are significant. That’s beyond barbaric, I hope it is a rare occurrence. So is the attacking of people with hammers. London has such a rich history and I’ve heard from friends and family who have visited that it has so much to offer. I hope the authorities can get a handle on these horrible crimes.

I hope that's metres

As he's already answered yes, yet I'd think anyone that posts a number with m, e.g. 300m outside the USA means meters ... since Australia uses the metric system. Good to check still though.

Idiot thieves. Those devices are now bricked.

Lol .. already answered, so yes parts, global shipping for a profit:
LCD on MacBooks/Pros will fetch a VERY pretty penny (est $500US)
Storage, Batteries, shells/cases.
iPhone X / 8 parts - catching!
Beats headphones and speakers will not be bricked so easy money.

Every time I see somone riding a modern moped I see: an alcoholic, drug addict (serving or mouth foaming), or some moron that just doesn't take care of themselves (Toronto). I feel this negative urge to do something unspeakably violent to them yet I breathe think positive and be on my way. Still mopeds scream low life in my eyes. Not like the 80's mopeds for the well-to-do.

Maybe the chitty chitty bang gang?
:D Could be.

I am sorry to hear that this apparently is a way for criminals to get around easily in the city and wreak so much havoc there.

I really never see mopeds anymore where I live. They’re just not practical in a semi rural area or the suburbs. They just don’t take anyone around here very far before they are faced with huge SUVs and trucks bearing down on them.

I saw a lot of them in Japan in the 1980’s, used by fairly respectable 20-somethings who didn’t want to spend money or find space for a car. I think that’s the only time and place I ever really saw a lot of them in use. They had tiny little trucks over there and tiny little cars and tiny little roads and alleys so mopeds were well suited there. I haven’t been back to any part of Asia in decades so I don’t know what it’s like there now.

I’d like to visit Singapore sometime in the next five years, but I have other places I’ll need to be that take priority so we shall see.

Apple needs to develop a stronger glass for their shopfronts or start using shutters in vulnerable locations.

Apple recently announced that its retail location within the Chadstone Shopping Center in Melbourne, Australia will be getting a grand reopening on November 24 at 9:00 a.m. local time. The newly relocated Apple Chadstone location will be triple the size of the previous store, and mark the first Australian store to gain Apple's modern retail layout.

Apple Chadstone first opened nearly ten years ago in 2008 with 69 employees, and will now grow to more than 240 with the grand reopening (via Herald Sun).

Apple Chadstone will now feature a Genius Grove, a "boulevard" of window product displays, a boardroom for business meetings with local entrepreneurs and developers, a meeting place for "Today at Apple," and more. According to Apple senior vice president of retail, Angela Ahrendts, Apple Chadstone will lead the way for the rest of Australia's Apple retail locations.
In other retail news, Apple Regent Street was robbed today by ten individuals who stole "thousands of pounds worth of laptops and iPads" (via Evening Standard). To get into the store, the robbers drove mopeds through the glass storefront in the early morning hours of Monday, and then in less than three minutes managed to take various products from display stands before escaping on more mopeds waiting outside.

In total, police said the thieves stole iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches and two iPhone Xs, which have since been recovered near Kings Cross. Apple Regent Street is said to be "open as usual" in the wake of the attack, which apparently follows an "epidemic" of moped-related attacks and thefts hitting London recently.

Definition of incongruent: Ten thugs on five mopeds :D

Thieves don't care if the devices are bricked. They didn't steal them for personal use. Those devices will either be parted out, sold to some unsuspecting dupe, or sent somewhere deep in the Asian market.

It would be more profitable and carry less media attention if they decided to rob a small jewellery store. That's the point and that is why they are idiots.

Oh wow, lets all earn a few bucks for spare parts! We will hit the big time! What about all that gold in the shop over there? Nah.

It would be more profitable to just get a job and go to work. No they're idiots because they chose thievery as an endeavor in the first place. That idiocy is not mitigated nor is it magnified by Apple bricking devices. Which was my point of disagreement with your: "Idiot thieves. Those devices are now bricked." They don't care if the devices are bricked. It doesn't stop them getting paid.

Over the past few years acid has become quite a common weapon to use in muggings, fights, and targeted attacks in London, and I assume in other parts in the UK.

I wouldn't say it's "common", it's still a very rare event, but yes, it has been used. No need to over exaggerate these things. They're already enough of a crap phenomenon as it is.
