Apple is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone later this year. Rumors suggest the "iPhone Ultra" will come in two color options, and a leaker shared an image today that allegedly shows one of them.

Posted on Weibo by the Chinese leaker known as Ice Universe, the image purportedly offers a first glimpse of Apple's foldable in white. The device is believed to have entered early mass production, but the model shown is likely a dummy. Regardless, fellow leaker Instant Digital has said white is so far the only "confirmed" finish that the device will be available in.

It is not yet clear what the alternative color will be, but Macworld recently cited a supply chain source claiming that it will be an indigo option similar to the iPhone 17 Pro's Deep Blue finish. The same source said the device will offer fewer choices than the iPhone 18 Pro models, with no bold or vibrant colors.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple plans to "stay away from fun colors" and stick to more traditional space gray/black and silver/white finishes. Such an approach would be similar to the iPhone X, which launched in just two colors – Silver and Space Gray – when it debuted in November 2017.

A limited color selection may simply reflect the foldable iPhone's expected low production volumes. Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has warned that manufacturing challenges could constrain supply through at least the end of 2026, and adding more colors would increase complexity and costs for an already difficult-to-produce device.

With launch supply expected to be tight and a price above $2,000, as reported by Gurman, Apple likely has little incentive to expand the initial color lineup, while buyers at this price point are also less likely to base their purchasing decision on color options.

The iPhone Ultra is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max this coming September.

Give us height is won’t effect the aspect ratio I would rather have black bars but more screen, it’s just to short, hate the passport size

Just release it already! These rumors have been around for at least 6 years at this point. Either ship or don't.

Maybe it is a good sign that now we at least get to see real photos of the thing.

Uaaah. Not sure this is a phone I would like.
I am rather more excited about the edge glass design.

This is a matter of taste anyway.

Let’s see how things pan out.
In the end I realize all I am doing is checking emails, messages, browsing the web and watching youtube 😂

This isn't better at anything. It's a triumph of compromises and its cost will exceed that of an iPhone Pro Max + iPad mini. It's yet another nonsensical, me-too product, of Cook's Apple.

Im really excited to finally see a shorter phone. Ever since the 5, I have not bee liking the phone getting longer and longer. Curious to see how a short, wide phone will be to use.

At $2000, I would expect the phone to look elegant. That is not elegant. The camera bump looks like something that could be bought in a 1950's toy store.

The chassis of the phone may be real, but that camera bump is not the final product. Either that’s a dummy piece that’s been inserted or it’s a shroud that was slid over the actual camera bump.

I'm supposed to believe this "photo"?

Oooooh no, they've adopted the ugly camera bump from the iPhone Air and made it even worse. I have an iPhone Air, and I try not to turn it over because the back is so ugly.

How ugly is this camera bump?
Camera bumps are universally ugly. I'd love to go back to the flush camera systems of the past. It's hard to believe that over the past decade or so, people's obsession with photographing everything — every single thing their kids do, selfies, dinner plates destined for Instagram and Facebook — has led to these massive protrusions on the backs of our phones. And rather than shrinking over time, they just keep growing. It is really sad. Constantly experiencing life through the lens of a camera, instead of just experiencing it by actually living in the moment, is no way to live. There are studies out there as well, but also in my personal experience the people who take the most photos/videos, especially selfies (or selfish-ies as I like to call them) are the most depressed.

TLDR: These camera bumps need to go, IMO.

I just hate the shortness of the phone, why not keep the width but still make it as tall as 17 pro max
It has to have a 16:9 internal display because it will run iPad apps on the inside. iOS apps already contain the necessary code, they just need the right 'signal' from the device to tell it which one to load. Its genius really: hundreds of thousands of iPad apps compatible at launch and devs don't need to lift a finger.

I maintain that the device is too wide to be used in landscape when open, and instead the advertised method will be rotating it to on big portrait display.
