hey guys, first crack at a report type document for a client. It is a First Nations code/agreement for mineral interests on non settlement land in the Territories. Not too exciting

Nonetheless, I used a dark red to compliment the First Nations logo and tried to give it an official, professional sort of appeal seeing as it is a report/agreement.

the inside pages are just text flow and I simple header I created. The client requested a colour cover and black and white inside.

let me know your thoughts, this is my first "report" project.

    cool :apple:

Wouldn't a brighter red be more appealing to the eye? Seeing that the logo is a bright red. Or at least some more color?

    It looks very professional BTW.

i think i like the darker one more. Maybe try the darker one a little lighter instead of a full blown red, Just a thought. Looks very pro aswell.

    Good Work. :)

Put me down in the darker red column, as well. Overall, that looks raa-aather nice. Very calm, very professional. Good work.

    Cheers!

out of those two I prefer the darker one, although (atleast on my screen) I think the red needs to be somewhere inbetween the two. The first one looks a little lifeless and the second a bit over excited if you get what I mean.

the lighter one isn't the right shade of red. the darker looks better out of those.

thanks for the words. I did an inbetween. so if you can again let me know which you think works best out of the 3. 1=darkest, 2=brightest and 3=inbetween.

    thanks again.

You had me at ... 'First'. :)

I like the darker better. It is very professional looking and not too distracting. What did you use to create it?

The darker one is my favorite, but the in between one is not bad one either.

No offense, the light red one made me feel like i was a little kid again.

new one looks washed out at the top and it appears to be heading more into the purples in its shading.

One thing, how's it being printed. Because if they UV seal the cover it always darkens the image/colour by a factor. That is a fight we're always having on the magazine.

I'd advocate test prints, something on paper in the hand can have a different feel to a pic like that.

However, if I had to choose, it'd be the initial dark one for me.

ok, thanks again for the comments. I did a side by side as it is down to these two. the initial dark as well as a slightly lighter which is not as purple or washed as the other lighter. so out of these two...

most seem to be leaning towards the darkest but I do think it perhaps looks a little lifeless but that could just be me. again, comments are welcome.

btw jessica, thanks for the compliment - it was done in photoshop.

    thanks.

Put me in the dark column. I'd love to see it with more of an exaggerated blend from light at the top to dark at the bottom. Give 'er some more oomph! Maybe overlay a black to white gradient layer and multiply it. But overall, very snazzy :D

They both look great. Either way it's a winner.

    Just a quick note -

Maybe you should think about your design as a concept. Your design appears professional, but I challenge you to think about whether the darkness of a color and swoosh define the contents of your report.

To me, the native american art that you reduced to mere icons and the photos which are thumbnails are infinitely more compelling than large swaths of crimson and a swoosh.

    Zarathustra - ouch!

thanks for the comment but the client did not want anything flashy or distracting. They asked for simple and professional. Althought some clients may like an 8.5 x 11 filled with images, this was not one of them.

btw, it is not a native art design - it is the clients logo/icon, not sure if you are used to these being rather large but this size is pretty standard for a logo.

    thanks
