My hype level is through the roof. Apple's next few months are simply breathtaking in terms of expected quality based on what the upcoming shows look like. I hope Apple delivers on that. Either way, I will add my voice to the growing chorus stating that Apple TV+ is better than Netflix (far better, for me) in that I don't have to wade through 19 trash shows to find that one gem show. Every single show on Apple is HBO quality (minus 3 or 4), and I have gotten more enjoyment out of 2 years of Apple TV+ than 10 years viewing Netflix.

In the past 24 months I think I watched 2 Netflix series (Kominsky Method and Mrs. Maisel) while watching and thoroughly enjoying 5 or 6 Apple series. By no means is Ted Lasso the only good show. It’s very good but I like other series much more.

I don ‘t know your definition of quality but a 50/50 hits to duds ratio on Netflix seems like an exaggeration.

Mrs. Maisel was Amazon Prime.

And I'm only paying a few bucks a month for it. And Netflix has the most award nominations every year. If I want to watch an award-winning series, I can on Netflix. If I want to turn my brain off and watching stupid, I can.
Ted Lasso is an award winning series. Go ahead and turn your brain off and watch Mythic Quest. The thing Apple isn’t doing that Netflix does far too much of is cancel shows a small group of people love after one season. The more Netflix does that, the less interested I am in investing time in their new shows. Netflix is bleeding subscribers in the US/Canada for a reason.

Strongly agreed on all fronts!—except Mrs Maisel was an Amazon show. 😉

Personally I've really enjoyed For All Mankind, and I liked See. I hadn't given Ted Lasso a second thought until a week ago or so as it didn't seem my cup of tea; turns out I was wrong. What the complainers in the comments always seem to forget is just because it's on tv doesn't mean it's necessarily for you; if you don't like it, don't watch it.

This. Netflix dropped an excellent series called "Travelers" that I was hooked on, along with a more-than-reasonable amount of dedicated fans, then they pulled the rug from under our feet. Poor form.

1. Netflix is an international streaming company. It's worldwide. For example, in Asia, Netflix's front-page has a ton of Korean/Japanese/Chinese original content. These shows won't appeal to you. Even in the US, Netflix has to produce a wide variety of shows to appeal to everyone's taste. That's why while you think one show is a dud, someone else will think it's a masterpiece. The sheer number of content Netflix produces to appeal to a wide audience is the reason why you think Netflix produces a lot of fillers.

2. Objectively, Netflix gets nominated for more awards than any other studio. It isn't even close.
Netflix was second with the most Emmy nominations going to HBO Max this year.

Except Mrs. Maisel is an Amazon Original, not a Netflix show.

Netflix's overall quality and production value are top-notch. The value I get for my Netflix subscription is incredible.

If Netflix produces 20 shows, and 10 are hits, and 10 are duds, you're still getting 10 hits. Apple TV+ will give you 2 shows, 1 hit, and 1 dud.
assuming netfix has a 50/50 split between crap and watchable is pretty generous.

Apple will never catch up to Netflix. We keep hearing news for this one Apple TV+ series, which I have zero interest in, while Netflix is debuting multiple series every single week including many international shows. Netflix also dominates awards for all streaming services.

Should have bought Netflix when Apple had the chance.
Sure...

They are losing subscribers in the US and Canada. I like Netflix because of the international shows: Dark and Babylon Berlin are fantastic television, but Netflix is not invincible.

I freakin' love Ted Lasso!!! A delicious blend of Anglo-American tomfoolery.
This makes my ever-continuing free trial of ATV+ worth having :)

I enjoyed it. The theme tune made me really excited to see it lol. I’ve cancelled my Netflix, as I haven’t been watching it & I don’t think others have. I’m waiting for You, Stranger things and Afterlife to come back on, but I can’t be bothered hunting for something to watch. Especially after the user experience the Apple TV app gives me for keeping track of what I want to watch. There’s less stuff on TV+ but that’s a good thing at the moment.

I was going to pay for Apple One at the end of the month, so I could watch Ted Lasso, Home before dark, See and The morning show, but luckily I claimed 6 months free via my PS5.

Episode 1 of season 2 was good. It wasn't sit on the edge of your seat exciting. However, it laid a lot of foundation for what we will be seeing the next several episodes.
Agree. Good, but not great. Felt a bit rushed between scenes like a hurry to get to the punchlines. Also felt like they relied on the same type of joke too heavily in one episode rather than alternating. Maybe just my expectations were too high.

I totally enjoyed tonight's S2 premiere. We had a special dinner just for the occasion. Nice to have you back, Ted. ⚽️

Netflix Emmy nominations for 2021 read like "The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Crown, The Kominsky Method, and The Queen's Gambit."

Thing is, how do you find Netflix’s jewels? Not easily. How do you find Apple TV+’s? Quite easily.

I guess we still have to use good ol' word-of-mouth.

But I've found a problem with that in this crowded streaming world.

You ask 10 people what shows they are watching... and you get 10 different answers!

Or you get stuck in a "Have you seen?" loop:

"Have you seen this show?"
"Nope"
"Have you seen this show?"
"No"
"Have you seen this show?"
"Stop asking..."

We didn't have this problem when there were just 3 channels on the tube and only a handful of shows each season.

:p

Oh yes. There’s an abundance of great TV now!

Oh I agree!

However... the downside of so much choice is that it's sometimes difficult to find someone else who has seen a certain show.

Back in the TV sitcom era... the watercolor talk centered around that one big network show that aired last night.

But now with literally hundreds of shows available to watch at any time... good luck having a chat about your favorite show.

Despite all that... yes... this is a great time for TV.

Now we just need to find more hours in the day to watch all the suggestions from all my friends. Like I said earlier... everyone is watching something different.

;)
