Over the years I have bought several Apple devices of the first generation. I have learned the hard way that Apple likes to use its customers as beta testers.

So, should this new Macbook Air be seen as a revision or as a (new) first generation. How many weeks after a new product are minor revisions applied to it? Maybe a small production error is silently fixed in the first month or so? Any ideas on this. thanks.

I would assume this happens to every product, not just first generations.

Probably. But what is the time frame of those smaller fixes. Are most issues found in the first week, the first month, after three months? Is this known?
