There are speculation for a 3rd generation for release sometime in September... would I be very out of date if I get the 1st generation?

My school is having a deal for $150, 8 gig.

My reason for wanting one is the applications, the games and to watch movies on it when I am on the go.

Inputs please?

Like every september apple brings new iPods out, maybe a iPod touch too.
Out of date with an iPod touch 1G? why? do you need always the newest one?
Buy the 2G because:
1.) battery is better, especially when you want play games + videos
2.) you can sell it for more in comparison to the 1G when the 3G is out.
Actualy if you would charge your iPod touch every day, you could get the 1G.
Ask yourself: how much GB do you need and do you need the volume buttons?
Just take care (with a case) for the iPod touch, then you can sell it for a good price when the 3G is out.

Speculation is a bad thing to go buy in the Apple industry. The 2nd Gen is nice because of the Speaker and the ability to Mic it. I own a first gen and I love it. Would like a 2nd gen, but the 1st came free with my laptop, and it serves its purpose well. If you don't need a speaker, I would say go with the deal on the first gen. Its 50% more, jut for the latest technology.

the 1st gen is fine i have 1st gen and 2nd gen and there isnt much diff besides the buttons and speakers so i say go with the deal on the 1st gen and just enjoy it.

Go for the deal if it suits your pocket expenses. When purchasing anything Apple, it's going to be the old generation eventually. Just enjoy what ever you get ;)

Good advice.

Personally, I have the 1st Gen iPod touch (32GB). Still works fine. :)

Never had a need to upgrade to the 2nd Gen. We'll see what the 3rd Gen brings. I would like more memory so that might get me to take the plunge.

However, I may keep using my 1st Gen as long as it keeps working fine.

I will wait and see what new comes out for the iPod touch. I have the 1st Gen and my son has the 2nd Gen. Other than the speakers, I see no difference in my opinion. However, the 3rd Gen. may have a few things that might make me jump to that.
