Maybe i’m some kind of deformed humanoid but i just cannot make this thing fit out of the box??

There’s already a light seal cushion in with the light seal so the one in the box is just an extra?

Anyway i have major light coming in around my cheeks/bottom of nose. When I tighten the band, it pulls against my forehead and causes the bottom of the cushion to magnetically unseat and let in even more light..

What am I doing wrong? Does the default band just not work for many types of heads?

Did you try the other strap yet? They each fit differently so the other one might work better for you. As @Lobwedgephil says definitely go to Apple if feasible. Just to put your mind at ease, you’re not a deformed humanoid.

First the FOV complaints and now this. Did you not demo this at the Apple Store? People really need to demo it instead of buying it sight unseen. It's a very personal and expensive product and it's important to make sure it's what you want before buying.

I've almost bought every other Apple product sight unseen - but not this one. I had a demo before buying it - I knew exactly what I was getting.

Exactly! I went to the Apple Store to pick mine up that I preordered precisely because I was suspicious of Apple’s app that scanned your face. Luckily for me I thought I’d be taking it back so I picked the option for no optical lenses and opted to wear contacts instead and the app scanned my face perfectly so I had the right light seal but when I then went online to buy the lenses after keeping it Apple’s app selected a slightly bigger light seal and that didn’t work nearly as well even with the lenses than the original one I got did so I sent that new light seal back to Apple for a full refund.

if you’re seeing that much light it’s highly likely you need a different light seal and you’re best bet is a trip to the Apple Store where they will swap what you have for the version that’s the best fit for you right then and there. Even if it’s an hour or more for $3,499 plus taxes here in the US it’s worth the drive. Especially if you opted for a model with more space that costs more as I did.
