All these fools buying an overpriced digital watch, which is not even waterproof. Plus Apple removed a few of the health features (everyone seems to forget this - http://www.techtimes.com/articles/3...n-health-features-watch-will-affect-sales.htm) - in effect its a cut down version at full price. Prefer my swiss made mechanical watch - fully automatic - no battery no charger, and sapphire crystal face and see-through back where you can see the mechanics working.

I have checked out these watches personally, and even 42mm is too small for my liking. The curved edges of the display have no functionality. Your thumb takes up 3/4's of the watch. I even managed to get the main screen locked to the left and nothing happened - it froze. It takes over a minute to kick over which proves its either a bloatware / bug issue or the processor is not powerful enough. Even the Apple employee said a lot of people are complaining about its size and its mainly an accessory device, and very limited function without an iPhone. So you have two devices with battery drain - the watch plus the iPhone - all using power at once to keep each other awake. We are going backwards.

Problem is your watch is worthless as at any given time I am in the proximity of two to ten more accurate time keepers than your silly wrist watch. Given it only keeps time and in an inferior many it seems insane to spend any money on such a worthless outdated device.

whatever the mechanical watch guys are saying, it will be even more of niche now, just like the black and white TV or radio of 30s. The future of watches is smart watches of all types, and we re moving to the future with speed of light. Swiss watches are for dinosaurs

Totally agree. Analogue watches are a bit like having an old analogue mobile phone - outdated. Digital/smart watches will be the way of the future. It's exactly the same what people of 35mm film used to say about digital cameras, and now almost everyone has a digital camera. How many people use 35,, these days - you probably can't even buy the film!

Plenty of film still available and being used. The movie industry and professional photographers use it a lot.

As for what's outdated.... Watches are more than just a thing you use, like a tablet or a TV or a toaster. They are often elegant, a status symbol, a fashion piece, etc, etc. cheap crap digital watches and toys like the apple watch or whatever brand are throw away items and those are what will be outdated quickly. A Tag Heuer, Rolex, or Patek phillipe watch are Incomparable to these digital "toys". It's like comparing filet mignon to chuck steak.

LOL... it's alright if you think that way.
BUT.. technology maybe moving to the future but TRENDS will always turn again to the past.

Maybe with enough advances in tech we'll revive the "dinosaurs" again. :D now that will be COOL. :)

So in other words, just a toy that you happen to be into to.

Mechanical watches are not like tvs or dumb phones. They're more like jewelry really. The function they serve has been pretty much eliminated a while ago. Their place as the ''only acceptable male jewelry'' will keep them around. Maybe more of a niche product, but not that much. I feel smartwatches will be more of a market for people who were simply not wearing a watch anymore.

The high end range of watches will not fall to smart watches. Every day watches are the ones that will have completion to smart watches. I don't know why people are hating on the likes of Rolex etc, they serve different markets.

One day I want a Rolex, I also want an Apple watch. There is a place for both, as it's already been said the watch's purpose has already been replaced. It's purpose for a long time has just been a fashion accessory.

That realization came to me when I watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJAJxnvoApw the other day. No smartwatch is going to match that level of craftsmanship. Then again, no smartwatch is going to cost six figures either.

A Warning re. the magnetized strap

Yes, I tried on every band at an Apple Store and the leather loop was very comfortable and one of my favorites. It also feels really cool when the magnets come together because you feel it click multiple times in succession as the magnets attach themselves. I preordered the SS w/ black sports band but I plan to get the midnight blue leather loop as my second, more formal band.

Just a warning here...

I just saw a picture (on the Google+ Pebble forum) yesterday of a broken Apple Watch. Apparently, the person was using the magnetized strap and when they reached into the pants pocket to retrieve something, the strap caught on their pants, came apart, and the watch fell to the linoleum floor, shattering the screen! So... Apparently, the screen is very fragile and the magnetic strap can come loose very easily!

Be careful out there!
