The first unboxing video of the fourth-generation iPad Air has been shared online. The short video offers the first in-person look at the iPad Air's new Sky Blue color, packaging, and Touch ID in the power button.

Other than some demo videos from a Chinese media event last month, this unboxing video appears to be the first of its kind, ahead of more detailed unboxings and reviews expected from the press this week.

The new iPad Air features a 10.9-inch ‌edge-to-edge display, the A14 Bionic chip, Apple Pencil 2 support, and a range of color options including Silver, Space Gray, Rose Gold, Green, and Sky Blue.

Pre-orders of the fourth-generation iPad Air began on Friday, 16 October, and the first shipments are set to arrive on Friday, 23 October.

Even though I see 4 speaker openings a la iPad Pro, there are just 2 speakers, right? One on each side? Or, I suppose one on the top, one on the bottom.

I had the original Air as well as Air 2 and these have come a long way. I have since moved to a Mini and 12.9 Pro but would consider one of these if work were different. It would be a good compromise as a single iPad versus the two I use today. Compact enough to carry and use portal and large enough to use stationary. Yes, all iPads are each of those but ideally some are better than others for various tasks.

I absolutely love the wallpapers they chose for then marketing and packaging. They’re so bold and colorful. They look even better printed on the box. The marketing team has done a great job with this product.

Finally! An unboxing of an unreleased product that is not shot on a 3.2MP camera.

They placed it diagonally. One near touchID/power (upper right) and the other one on the (lower left) of USB-C port.

that way you still kinda get stereo when on portrait.

other holes don’t output sound but i’m glad its there for symmetry.

Oh if they released one of these without a back camera and with edges so i can hold it and with pencil 2 support and also so it doesn’t randomly crack on account of being warped, I’d be so buying one.

Also I’d like Promotion display. Does it have that?

ps. Check your new one is flat now. If it develops a hair line crack later, Apple will use every tiny mark to prove that it was your fault.

For some reason I really like that green on the iPad, but not for an iPhone 12, even though they're pretty much the same color 🧐

The new iPad Air is a fantastic tablet no doubt, but why so much press coverage over it? It’s a stripped down iPad Pro 11” with new colors and the A14 and it isn’t particularly cheap. Am I missing something?

No it doesn’t have ProMotion display. And as far as the bending issues, I’ve had my 2018 iPad Pro for a while now and it’s not bent at all. And I take it on and off my Magic Keyboard multiple times per day. I think the bending durability concerns of the iPad Pros are overblown.

Why is there no power button touch ID in the new iPhone 12? It would make even more sense in a iPhone.

This could be an indication that might happen for the iPhone in the future. To me, that would be the perfect combination having touch ID embedded into the power button and Face ID co-existing together. With face ID being the primary as Apples future, Hopefully this feature Cross- Planes into the iPhone at some point. (Even More so with masking in place because of the pandemic, Would be another a good example of why touch ID could be embedded into the power button, as we know the technology is imminent.)

You would think with masks being around for the foreseeable future that touchID would be there, but then again, that would have required an extra year to implement. ;)
If they add this to the 2021 iPhone, I’ll upgrade my iPhone 11 Pro next year as it will probably have 120Hz display as well. Perfect reason to upgrade next year!

By the way, if anyone wants the wallpapers off of the iPad Air 4, here is a link to download them:

This is reassuring. I’m planning on getting this next month.
