Apple customers in Australia and New Zealand are always the first to get their hands on new devices on launch day because of differences in time zones, and the 2020 iPhone models are now arriving in those countries.

It's Friday morning in Australia and New Zealand, and customers who pre-ordered an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro are beginning to receive their shipments. New device photos and videos and images of lines are popping up on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and more.

There are no Apple Stores in New Zealand, so customers in Australia are the first to be able to purchase one of the new iPhone 12 models in a retail location, and people are lining up to get their new devices.

Available in-store stock in Australia should give us an idea of what we can expect in other retail stores as the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro roll out. Early pre-orders from Apple sold out after a short period this year, so many customers may be hoping for in-store stock.

Following New Zealand and Australia, iPhone 12 and 12 Pro sales will begin in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and then North America. Apple Stores globally are opening up right around 8:00 a.m. local time to allow customers to pick up reserved devices and make walk-in purchases.

Customers hoping to get a device through a walk-in purchase on launch day should go early, and there have been reports that Apple is not allowing walk-in purchases in all stores.

Make sure to stay tuned to MacRumors tomorrow and throughout next week, because we'll have plenty of ‌iPhone 12 and 12 Pro coverage. The new iPad Air is also launching tomorrow, so we'll have iPad Air coverage as well.

Even back in the glory days, when iPhones were new and exciting, I have never understood the desire to stand in line overnight for a smartphone.

It was fun as an employee. In the crazy early day launches before online orders, I once counted 1500 people in line at my local suburban mall store. I would do the overnight shift to set them all up. Arrive at 9pm night before, work through 6am. Then stay to watch the opening :)

I’m really interested to see if the silver with a non-anodized stainless steel band handles dings better. I’m still gunning for the Pacific Blue iP12 PM but man, that stainless steel on the iPhone 4 was aces to use. It was almost indestructible.
Having owned both a silver X and a green (PVD coated) 11 Pro, the coloured steel holds up a lot better to small micro scratches. My 11 Pro steel band is still almost like new, even under sunlight. The silver raw steel scratched if you looked at it funny.

Are there even any devices available for random walk ins if the pick up isn’t even available anymore?

If it's like the AppleWatch, there will be stock in stores that will be available for same-day in store pickup if you order in Apple Store App and choose your local store.

I had a call a few hours ago to say the blue Pro I preordered for my wife is ready to collect from our mobile carrier. I'll pick it up on the way home from work and surprise her with it.
I hope I can get a Pro Max for me with as little fuss.

Anyone else from Melbourne wishing that their iPhone gets delivered today? Mine is stating Monday most likely due to the public grand final holiday today 😒

I think Apple has a real hit with these new iPhones. Lol but when don’t they? I am really happy to see the flat sides again. Enjoy your new iPhones everyone who has bought one. Or two...

It would be no different than the lengths some have gone to for, say, Grateful Dead tickets. It's about the energy, camaraderie, connection and community. Frankly, I miss that option. Is it easier for me to spend 15 seconds and two clicks to secure my launch day delivery? Sure. While there is certainly a time and place for convenience, it seems too often the go to when maybe it shouldn't be. Those queue lines played a much larger, more integral role in Apple's success than Angela may have understood.

That said, looking forward to my 12 pro blue delivery tomorrow. 😉

I've never done it but I guess I could see why someone might in the early days of smartphones but now..I don't get it. Nothing really new to be amazed about and let's be honest the 12 isn't that much different than the 11 except they went back to the iphone4 styling. I know specs are better but daily use I dare say people would never notice.

I can understand those waiting for a PS5 or Xbox not that I'd stay outside over night for one but I guess from what I've heard it's more about the socializing and friendship
