I've been searching and reading through this forum all day and have yet to find a thread similar to this topic. if there is one, please let me know and point me in the right direction! I have a few questions for all of the newbies:

who here will be making the iPhone 3G S their very first iPhone purchase? will it be your first time having a contract with AT&T?

when do you plan on purchasing your iPhone? are you going to wait it out in the lines at Apple on the 19th or go straight to AT&T?

this will be my first iPhone purchase. it will also be my first time having a contract with AT&T. I still haven't decided on which plan I want to get or what color/size iPhone I want either. I'll most likely go with the 32GB, but the color is definitely still up in the air.

I won't be making my purchase next Friday, and it's mainly because I won't have the money in time nor the drive to wait in line... hahaha. I plan on getting it a week or two after the release date unless they're sold out like crazy like they were last year.

so, any other first timers? share! :D

This will be my first iPhone purchase. It will not be my first time with AT&T. I've been with AT&T/Cingular for 9 years now. I wish I was a new customer so I could get the new customer price, but it's cool.

I preordered the 32GB Black. I just like the way the black looks. In my opinion, I think it looks nicer.

This will be my first iphone and also the first time i will be with at&t. I'm currently on Verizon on a family plan with my parents and sister. I ordered a 16gb 3GS through apple, i can't wait til Friday.

First iPhone purchase; 3rd or 4th time with AT&T. I don't make enough phone calls to justify even the 450 minute plan, but you know, it is just time for me to get with the program and get one of these things :)

how satisfied are you with your AT&T service? was there any reason in particular that made you decide to get the iPhone this time around?

same here! I'm with a family plan on T-Mobile, though.

I will be purchasing my first iphone in the next month or so. My contract with Verizon expires in mid July, so I'll wait until then to get it. I plan on buying from Apple.

I was with ATT/Cingular for years before switching 2 years ago...a move that was necessary due to finances, (My husbands company was with Verizon, and my husband is a pilot and gone a lot...so we chat on the phone constantly, and needed to be "IN" or our conversations would eat all our minutes). I missed Cingular from day one...especially the Roll-over minutes. I am looking forward to switching.

I'll be getting the 32GB 3GS Black.

Good luck!

I've been very satisfied with AT&T all the years I've been with them. The coverage has definitely gotten better. Where I live, I have really good coverage. I'm not in a heavily populated city, so I don't have a lot of network congestion.

This will also be my first time having a phone with internet capabilities. So I'm really excited about that.

I made the choice to purchase an iPhone, because I've always wanted one since they were released in 2007. But then they were so expensive and I was in no place financially to afford the monthly cost. And now that the App store has been up for over a year, there are so many things that an iPhone can do now. So many useful apps. And it's Apple.

really? I'm actually kind of nervous that the 450 minute plan won't be enough, but that's only because I do A LOT of talking to my sister, mom, dad, best friend and boyfriend who all have T-Mobile (my current service provider). I really love the free T-Mobile to T-Mobile option I have. I'm pretty sure I'll do the 450 minute plan anyway and attempt to rack up rollover minutes!

thanks! good luck to you, too! I like that everyone here so far also agrees with me on the 32GB choice.

this is my exact reasoning for choosing the iPhone now! I am so, so, so excited for the apps. great minds think alike. :)

if you talk alot.. to people not on att get the higher plan... dont talk much the first month to stack up a few roll over minutes then you'll have a cushion for the following months... i personally have 1400 roll over minutes and its great to have a cushion for the months you use your phone alot...

ps. beware of first bill sticker shock.. att charges you for the first month and the second.... with the first month being prorated...

what do you mean exactly? can you elaborate some?

The day you get your phone isnt necessarily the start of your billing cycle... so there will be a few days or more that you will be using the phone and its features.... you'll get charged for those days... and your first bill will include those days and the second months bill...

Thanks for elaborating but i'm still curious. So I'll get my hardware on the 19th, and that'll be just the cost of the phone. When will I recieve my first bill from ATT? July 19th? Doesn't ATT bill you after the month is up incase of any overages or anything?

so, my very first bill will be for two months and not just one?

1st time iPhone buyer 8gb 3g black and enjoy it.Was with Verzion for years went w/the 450 min. Only wish i had gone with the 16g or waited for new 3gS but life goes on:)

First iPhone, first AT&T contract. My wife and I have been with Sprint for 8 years or so (five of which while we've been married and on a family plan), and we're taking the plunge with the 3GS. :D

i bought my 2 iPhones last year and the first bill was about 350$
i have 2 lines with 700 share min.
hope this helps.

yes because your first month is so short...
gotcha! thanks for letting us know. :)

I still need to go by AT&T and talk about everything/get as much information as I can. this will be first individual contract, and I have a lot of questions (fees, deposits and more).

I've been with Cingular/At&t for six or seven years now. Previously, I had Sprint. I've never had any trouble with AT&T and the 3G network in my area works perfectly.

This will be my first iphone but not my first 3G phone. I was able to get to $199 price for the 16GB because I was "upgrade eligible" and no longer on a contract. All I had to do was sign a 2 year contract, just like a brand new customer would.

I've been waiting for the new iPhone release to finally make the jump into the world of smartphones, myself. I'm currently with US Cellular for personal use, because when I lived in Iowa, they had the best network for those of us living in the middle of absolute nowhere. Now that I'm back living in the Chicago area, AT&T is a viable option. I'm mainly interested in the data service and not so much the voice service, and the 450 minute plan will be more than enough. My wife will also be switching to AT&T, but all she wants is a cheap phone to talk on, so we'll just be getting a single iPhone. Probably go with one of the combined family plans for voice minutes, and one iPhone data plan.

I also have a Nextel phone that I have to carry for work, so I'll be one of those freaks carrying two devices all the time.

I have a BlackBerry through T-Mobile that I absolutely love. my contract goes up in March, and I've decided to keep my BB until then. I can use it for BBM and my free T-Mobile to T-Mobile which will allow me to rack up the rollover minutes on my plan with AT&T. so, I will be another person carrying around 2 cell phones. people do it all the time. doesn't bother me a bit. :)

I am a life time Verizon user so I have a question with roll-over minutes. If you have some roll-over minutes, is it only good for the following month? If you don't use July's roll-over minutes in August, it expires in September?

Rollover last for a year. I've racked up like 6500 mins.
