I went to AT&T today and got a lot of my questions and concerns answered. you can find all of the info and then some on my Twitter account, but here's a summary:

:apple: pre-ordering now through AT&T will give you an iPhone between 7-14 business days
:apple: no deposit (for me)
:apple: $36 fee that will be added on to my first monthly bill
:apple: cost of phone + any accessories is the only thing I'll have to pay for upfront at any AT&T
:apple: sales rep said they only received 10 iPhones last year. he predicts the same amount for this year as well as a line outside before the store opens. most walk-ins won't get an iPhone.
:apple: supposedly, if you pre-order now through Apple you can still somehow get it by Friday? buyiphone.apple.com
:apple: 32GB will be (or should be) same size as 8GB and 16GB

First iPhone. Going back to AT&T after a 3 year hiatus. I started on Verizon, switched to AT&T in college, left them for Cingular to get the phone I wanted midway through, they got bought out by AT&T whose service sucked in NY after college. Went back to Verizon for a little over 2 years--now I'm going back to AT&T for the iPhone.

Actually, now that I think about it, when I got my very first cell phone it was Bell Atlantic Mobile, which became Verizon.

I guess I've been with everyone that's covered the areas I live in except T-Mobile.

First iPhone purchase and first time with AT&T for me. I bought a white 16gb 3GS last Friday at the local AT&T store and can't wait to pick it up Friday morning. I paid for it in full at the store, which I didn't know you could do but it makes me feel better knowing I've got money down on one instead of waiting in line hoping to snag one before they run dry. I'm joining my fiance's family plan and finally cutting the cord with Sprint. My current phone is a Samsung Instinct and while I have had a pretty good experience with the phone and the service, it just feels like I'm paying $100/month for a less capable phone when I could pay under $50/month for a phone that can do everything I want and probably more. And I won't lie, I got the white one only because it matches my white VW rabbit. :D
