Does anyone here work for Tom Thumb/Safeway/all assorted Safeway stores, and what is it like? I've just applied there using the online application. I've also applied at Walgreens and have the same questions about there. If anyone has any suggestions of other places to apply please let me know.
Thanks!:apple:

Wherever you end up working, one way to succeed is to dress professionally for your interviews. Torn jeans may be cool at school, but when you come to an interview or work with torn jeans, we see someone that's sloppy and can't take care of themselves. We also assume you're going to treat our business with the same care.

Be yourself and don't lie. Also, remember customers should come first. You're there to serve them, and that's going to be in any business you're in. You'll always have customers and without them, you'll have no income.

Good luck!

What kind of position are you looking for?

Just about any position really, but the ones that I applied for are Checker, Sacker, and Baker (I thought this could be an interesting job, and I like to cook). At Walgreens I applied for the Service clerk position.

Thank you for the great interview advice, it will come in handy when I go for interviews.

I can't wait for my first paycheck to put in my first bank account (Direct Deposit too!)! :apple:

Umm, ok! A job is a job, they will all be the same. Every job has the same environment, the same type of managers and workers. Have fun!

I work for Randells in high school (Randells bought out Tomb Thumb and then Safeway bought out Randells)

I started working for them shortly after it happened and quite shortly before it was finished. I quite because of school not because of safeway.

I started as a cashier and in 2 years I was there I worked in GM deparment for a while, stocker, sacker and fuel stations. Stocking and fuel station I think I liked the best.

I hated being a cashier the most because the customer blames the cashier for EVERYTHING. The stupid card got annoying. hit Ctrl Qty 810011747316 enter and it works out to be a old store card number in the computers that we were not supposed to used. Damn I still know that number after 6 years of not working there.

If you work there I suggest you memorize that number shuts up so many customers when you know a random card number off the top of your head.

For the front end sacker was the best spot because it let you get away more often. Also helps if you a good one because the manger likes a good sacker/cashier means they are more likely to throw another sacker on a register and let you sack and hope on as needed. While the job was a good experience I do not miss it. It is a great job for a HS student.

Lastly Customer service is the most important thing to Safeway. You get in a lot of trouble if you mess that up.
