I was thinking about buying 13 Pro Max. So far i have found some drawbacks vs XS Max.
  • no 3D Touch
  • A15 is marginally better than A14 (still not enough to ditch the XS Max)
  • USB2.0 (painfully slow backup still)
  • 6GB of RAM (i hoped for 8GB)
At this stage, I can't justify dishing out 1500€ for a phone that will bring me again some frustrating things and XS Max works fine.

The same thing is with the Apple Watch. I wanted a flat design and I would bite the bullet with a mediocre battery, but they had to postpone it...
The XS was released 4 years ago, theres been many changes since then esp in the way of design. but if your phone still runs smoothly then just wait for the next one

This is a tough one for me, too. I miss 3D Touch immensely, but the X/XS size was always too big IMO.

When the 12 mini came out, I finally made the upgrade. The cameras are worlds better between the XS and 12. It’s noticeably faster, but not so much that it’s a must-have upgrade. The cellular radio is a massive improvement that is worth the upgrade — from any of the Intel baseband iPhone models.

I’ve learned to live without 3D Touch, but I miss it all the time. Especially for selecting text using the keyboard and quickly opening menus that used to just be firm presses.

I don’t blame him/her for wanting to hold on to the XS to keep 3D Touch, but with each year’s iterative improvements, it’s harder to justify missing out on more to hold onto that one feature, despite how helpful and under-appreciated it was.

Does a smaller taptic engine mean less forceful taptic feedback? I think the current level of force/feedback is adequate and wouldn't want to see less feedback.

I agree. In light of our global understanding of electronic waste, the less we discard our electronics the better. Keep using your old XS until it either breaks down and can't be repaired or it no longer runs as needed.

It's funny how I got used to the size of the iPhone 12 Pro. I too once has an XS until it died. At that point I thought the XS was just the right size and I couldn't imagine going bigger. When my XS died, my choice was between iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 12 Pro in terms of size and the mini was just too small.

For now, it feels like the iPhone 12's size is just about the biggest I can handle.

A15 is much better than A14. Across all usage it’s about 14% faster for CPU tasks, and the improvement for GPU-bound or AI tasks is much bigger than that.

I dig the flat design, in fact, the 5 was the prettiest iPhone for me. XS Max runs fine and I don't see the point. Maybe next year, and maybe they fix all those points I hate about the new iPhone.

3D Touch won't make a return (I tried this so to speak "force touch") but I will get used to this "new" ****. Peeking emails, messages, and other tasks like switching apps are really neat.

So the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Watch Series 8. If they make it flat :)

Once you go Max you never go back. I waited for XS Max because I have had the 7 Plus and iPhone X was a flop in terms of size.

To be honest, max holds very well. My mother is still using the 7 Plus (this sounds so wrong) and that phone runs well.

I was heavily criticized when purchasing my iPhone 7 for not having the 3.5mm audio jack; now look at everyone! People talk crap without even knowing where the market is heading. As you mentioned, now all flagship phones have a non-removable battery, but we only b***h at Apple when they push forward with chang

Heavily criticised for buying a phone you wanted with your own money ! I guess those folk who did this to you must still be in therapy 😁

Why is the notch taller then it should have been smaller
Previously the camera, faceID sensors and speaker are along horizontal. Now the speaker is at the top. That means you need a bit more space vertically. And it’s not even that much taller. I think it’s fine.

Isn't that for the home button's haptic feedback? I remember there was another setting for 3D touch feedback, but that's also gone since iPhone 11.

I somehow recall it was there during setup of my 12 mini, before I got to restore from iCloud backup unless I’m mistaken.

yes I took a look in iOS settings and I can only disable/enable haptic feedback. I also just checked in accessibility options and missing there too. VERY strange that this is missing.

Likely in iPhone 14 or iPhone 15 they will reveal a new Taptic Engine that is x% better, when in reality the force output is exactly the same as iPhone 11.
