I'm curious what people think about the choice between the two upgraded power supplies: 35-watt power adapter with two USB-C ports or a 67-watt USB-C power adapter that supports the M2-based MacBook Air’s fast charging capabilities. One article I read said that you have the choice between the two if you order a MBA with a higher capacity drive.
I'm definitely getting the 35-W with two USB-C ports. Extra USB-C port to charge my phone instead of plugging it to the laptop. 👌

hurry up i need them 256gb ssd tests and does the usb4 port power the machine??

I'd argue that's where it could matter the most. A computer with a low amount of memory will disk-swap more and if it swaps to a slower drive you'll notice it more. I'm not claiming that this is a problem for certain in practice, but I would love to see the tech press try and make some tests with that aspect in focus.

Ready for those hands on reviews for 2 reasons:

1. To see if base model SSD is 2x128GB or 1x256GB (maybe Apple saved stock for this?)

2. How the new design thermals handle M2 heat, especially over sustained use. Have they gotten super inventive with cooling in this fanless enclosure?)

Can’t wait to hear, this is an exciting machine!

Exactly. As a current M1 owner with interest in only the base model, the performance unknowns are very important.

I separately ordered an iMac today, and selecting 16GB changed the delivery from immediate to August 9. Memory availability must be the bottleneck.

I think it's the color more than anything - I ordered an 8GB/512gig machine in Midnight......got my order in within 5 mins of it opening up and got the Aug. 2 - Aug. 9 expected delivery date.

I just went to BestBuy and all of the M2 Air models are 8GB. Not one 16GB. I've never seen this before.

A shortage is a good possibility. So in effect, this launch is somewhat premature. Odd.

16gb was a custom build for M1 air also and I think M1 pro and m2 pro

Standard for 14/16 mbp’s

Good for you—you've got the machine you want. This thread doesn't apply to you, so you might find better use of your time posting on other threads.
Ordered a loaded Air a week ago but canceled yesterday and ordered the BBP 14 on sale at Amazon. With the discount it seemed like a far better value for us. but it was a hard decision. So am I supposed to shut up and go away too.

I’m at that difficult decision point (and I think a lot of Mac users are facing this same decision) where an Intel 16” MPB is serving my needs well. I don’t really need a more high end “pro” machine than that. The M2 would definitely serve me well.

*BUT*

The one caveat is when I do push it, I don’t know if the fanless design is going to be enough. And I don’t want the 13.3” MBP because of the old design and all that comes with it (camera, speakers, etc.)

To me, and many I think, they are facing this same question.

The ideal machine for me that would be an instant upgrade to AS would be new design, M2, and fan. Right now we can only have 2 of those 3 things 😂

Here’s hoping that rumored 15” is a MacBook or MacBook studio with M2 and single fan design.
Depends on what your workload is and how you use the machine. If you are a developer, the Air is plenty. If you do video or graphics, the Pro would be the better option. Also how many monitors you need to drive from the laptop will drive your decision.

If you are a developer, the Air is plenty.

I tried telling my coworkers this. I had an Air in 2010 and did a lot of game development and iOS development on it. I'm so excited to see what the new Air can do.

I played around with an M1 Air for a few projects of mine and was blown away that the build times were faster than my 2019 i9 16 inch MBP with 64 gigs of ram.

Yes, it's kind of interesting how Apple added that in, but only for the higher-capacity storage models. Are they perhaps thinking that there's a connection between more storage and power consumption? Do users whose Macs have more storage capacity need that faster charging feature? Hmm.

Actually, this is the way they worded it:

35W Dual USB‑C Port Compact Power Adapter or 67W USB‑C Power Adapter included as free upgrade with selection of M2 chip with 10-core GPU and 512GB SSD storage or higher.

You can still purchase the 67W USB-C Power Adapter at extra cost with the base model, apparently. It's just not free, that's all.
I think the storage is irrelevant. You get the premium charger options at no additional cost if you order the 10 core chip, and that comes with 512 Gb by default. FWIW I went for the 67W fast charger because there are almost limitless third party travel charger options out there, but for fast charge, you never quite know what might not be compatible for whatever reason.

I'm with you. So I have the 12" 2017 MacBook, which was great for screen resolution, ok for battery life (horrible keyboard). I actually have a 14" specced out MBP, which I want to leave at home and take a new MBA as a floating utility machine because I wanted the smallest form factor I could get in a Mac when it comes to travel.

I was hoping they would have kept the physical form factor as small as they can on the redesigned MBAs, but I'm excited about what we have seen so far.
Exactly! I worked as GM product trainer, and flew all over. Everybody might not think that a couple extra pounds is nothing, but lugging all of that around airports, it matters. Battery life! Back when I started in 2001, planes didn't have charging outlets either.

Ordered Silverlight base model at 5am on PST 7/8. Expected delivery is 7/15. In Chicago area. STILL says preparing for shipment. WTF? Are most who ordered right at preorder time seeing their MBAs ship?

On my order confirmation page of the base 8/256 Midnight, it said it would deliver on July 15, but the email confirmation said July 18–25 (same as when I looked online this morning). Hoping it had progressed beyond processing, I checked again and now it's saying July 26–August 2. So it keeps getting pushed out.

Same thing happened to me.

Mine base Starlight model still says July 15th but has not shipped. I have to think that these models are already here in the states at some FEDEX or UPS hub waiting to ship out overnight. Or so I hope.

Shipped. All week this was preparing for shipment but got the notification this morning. What's weird is if you look at the shipping progress it actually shipped from China on 7/9 and has been en route ever since.

The good news: my 8/256 Midnight MA shipped today. The bad news: the expected delivery is July 26. I ordered it within 10 minutes of the pre-orders going live and it said it would be delivered July 15.
