I'd hold on for a while and wait to see what apple is coming out with.

We're all waiting on iMac, Mac Mini and Mac Pro updates and when that happens the older models will be sold off at a reduced rate like apple usually do.

I bought my first mac, a beige G3, only a few months before the blue & white G3s came out and for what I paid for a refurbished beige desktop, I could have got the same CPU in a tower with faster memory, a better graphics card and if I remember rightly, a DVD Rom

It's not worth the risk at present, I'd wait a while and see what new systems apple comes out with.
There are no signs that Apple will update the notebooks any time soon, so why should he wait? If he was getting an iMac, Mac Mini, or Mac Pro then yeah, he should probably wait but he's not getting one of those.

sorry, my mistake

never mind, I should have noticed that really.

honestly the older I get, the more time I seem to spend making people aware of the mistakes I've made myself over the years in a purely cautionary way.

If I'm like this in my early 30s, I dread to think what I'll be like as a cantankerous old man in my 70s...

:D

i was thinking about getting a refurb becasue i could get the 2.4 for roughly the same price as the 2.0.

i was reading the terms and conditions and it says that there could be scratches etc.

have people that have got refurbs found scratches/ finger prints? or dents?

I got my MBP refurb and it was pristine.

was it the base model?

I got my MBP refurb and it was pristine.

I just check the Refurb store and yes... the Alum Macbook 2.4GHz is gone  But the

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

15.4-inch glossy widescreen display
2GB memory
200GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB of GDDR3 memory
Built-in iSight Camera

for 1449.00 CAD i think is on....
Of course they are the last generation Penryne?(correct me if I am wrong... I am still a noob here)

Is it really true that the last generation MBP with GeForce 8600M GT a time bomb ready to blow up? I originally was going to purchase the refurb MBP before I heard about the defects about the graphic card....

updated

They just put some alum macbooks up on the refurb site.

I got one for like 1099 I believe it was.

First post and first mac, woop.

I had the same question (you might find it if you do an MRoogle) and basically the answer was the last gen MBP is an awesome machine (which it is in the short time I've got it so far) and if you have AppleCare, you're covered for 3 years which is when the defect is most likely to show up anyway. Of course, Apple will cover an 8600M defect without AppleCare for a total of two years (doubling the original one year warranty) but having AppleCare will give you the peace of mind that Apple won't dicker with you over whether the problem is truly an 8600 defect...plus it goes out for 3 years instead of 2.

I've also been told that not all MBPs with the 8600 will be affected so it's not a 1:1 ratio.

Just make sure your data is backed up and you'll find that the last gen MBP is an outstanding value...comparable specs to the unibody MB but a bigger screen, FW, dedicated graphics, and an option for the matte screen...for about the same cost.

According to Apple's "Whats in the Box" iLife '09 is listed!

I tried to "Add to Cart" and it wouldn't do it for the MB 2.4, then I refreshed the refurbished page and it was gone!!!!

Did one you guys beat me to it???????

do the refurbs get a new case?
ex. will you find scratches in a refurb ipod?

What I've heard, you might find some scratches but it depends on the "luck". They obviously will not sell us the scrap looking hardware...I hope not... cause I just ordered the Refurb Alum2.0GHz Macbook for 1199.00 CAD

I called the Customer Service this morning considering the iLife 09 included in the box or not and the representative lady told me that there is 50% chance of me getting it. And yes, she told me about the Up-To-Date program... When I purchased it I didn't notice it saying iLife 09 Included...

i ordered my first mac last night. it was a refurb 2.4 mbp unibody. when i ordered last night i saw it said iLife 09 is included. its scheduled to arrive tomorrow. hopefully iLife 09 is included.

ill get back...

cant wait for it:D

Did you choose the Faster delivery? I chose the free delivery... that explains why I am getting mine within a week or so... Hopefully I will get it sooner :p
I could of bought 2.4GHz but with that money I thought of getting Ipod Touch 2G and I ain't looking back :) Only downside of me choosing 2.0GHz on night of 27th was that I didn't look carefully enough to check if it was including iLife 09 in the box. I have called the customer service couple time and the Apple people told me that they can't really do anything at this point but just to hope for it to be in it :C. Anyways... they comforted me with the Up-To-Date program offer and instructions. So far I am loving :apple:'s customer service :D

My Alum 2.0 GHz Macbook came this morning :D:D:D:D:D
I chose the normal shipping and it took them 2 ~3 days :D I wasn't expecting this to arrive anytime soon lol I am so excited right now yet being extra careful not to break this little devil ;D

The GOOD NEWS is that even though the description didn't mention about the iLife 09, it came with the ugly box~ ;D

Yes... I have to say... refurb box is really really ugly lol but overall I see just little there and here but I am very satisfy that I took the refurb over new ~
