So just a general rant then.

As you haven’t noticed there’s been software updates and server updates / fixes, recently. They’ve even been mentioned on this site!

I work the time I’m not commuting into the office, thats extra work for starters!
Huh?
When things were working before and stopped working all of a sudden, how is that a general rant?
That sounds like the logic that Apple is using to avoid fixing an issue.

Believe it or not, my work hours during this work from home period is actually longer than when I am physically in the office. And that is not because I am more efficient at the office.

Same here. When you can work from home it is all too easy to remote in at 9PM for "just one more thing" before bed. And then I get up at 5AM and start all over again.
That is why I volunteered to return to the workplace when it was offered on June 1.

I was still replying emails at 00:30...😴
Luckily, the basement workout equipment is keeping me in a shape that is not round.

It’s about timeeeeeee
Lockdown = Prisoner with no freedom of movement. If person wants to go out. They should have the right to.
And once you can go out, you will be required to wear a mask of dubious value (depending on construction, materials, etc). It’s a muzzle displaying your compliance to the regime of the state.

Your choice to do that. Not forced. Self-discipline would make work from home more pleasurable and beneficial.

Yes I'm curious. Do you get OT for more work, or is it just salaried 40h worth of work, but you can spread it out at your leisure barring any hard due dates/times?

Can you not control yourself and stop working when you have put in your hours? Control your own life for your mental and physical benefit.

If I am not working in a team.
Some of the management are sending those emails at that time and expected an answer first thing in the morning.
It is really toxic. :(

That is very bad. Are you in the US? This expectation of employees to be on 24/7 and not be compensated is a sickness and abuse. If you are management and have a different compensation package it may be a little more acceptable.

In the US, not management, but on salary. 😨

Given my salaried role in my software/services company (DevOps) there is no "time limit". Only requirements and action items matter.

For example, I could put in an 8-hour day at the office, commute 1 hour to go home, and log back in 3 hours later for a maintenance activity that lasts 6 hours because the customer-driven maintenance window for hardware/software is after-hours.

And that is not counting whenever we have maintenance issues like an outage. The worst case of this was when we had a full workday, a maintenance activity that took all night AND the following full workday. And we did this in the office. I was slapping myself on the way home to stay awake.

We do what we have to do to get paid in this day and age.

Can be? Might want to open your front door and step outside.
Can you elaborate what you meant by that?

In my country, unemployment is rising due to various businesses closing down or even going bankrupt. Consumer buying power is decreasing with many workers having reduced pay or no pay at all. There are even big name hotels closing down for good. Meanwhile this is all happening when the government was boosting infrastructure development prior to the pandemic, and the country is taking huge debts. The political opponents are literally taking headshots at the current administration, criticizing every decision being made. The central bank has been doing direct interventions to stabilize the currency and market. As a small business owner, we are also facing prolonged account receivables that directly affect our employees.

So what did you mean by opening my front door and stepping outside? Please elaborate.

I am in management and work with people across multiple time zones. I do what I need to do. Thanks for your concern.
