Apple A-series chips are typically labeled on all four edges, suggesting this chipset is in a mid-production state. fake

Fixed it there.

Nah. This is the point when the leaks start happening in earnest. You are going to start seeing the real stuff now. Are we at the point where there are a million fully functional iPhone 7s sitting in a warehouse somewhere in China? I'm not sure. But if we aren't there yet we are probably pretty close. Apple ships millions on launch day and it isn't like they all get manufactured the night before by Santa's elves. I don't know when FoxConn goes into full production of final form, but it has to be before September, right?

LOOK AT THE BEZEL ON THAT THING!!!

It's just RAM they stuck in a custom package.
Why didn't I think of this. Of course, you're correct. This is just the top module of the complete pacake-in-packaging, containing only the RAM. The pins are the RAM pins connecting to the CPU module that sits between the RAM and the PCB. The text describing the actual CPU isn't on this picture, only the RAM.

You'd think the person taking the photo would position themselves a little better so as not to have the glare of a light right in the middle of the photo.

But that's what makes this photo all the more authentic, without alteration or photo shopping/and or editing.

Yeah. I def get all excited when I hear corporate execs yammer about their fake excitement. Lol...they really do need to come up with more than one adjective about these things. Wouldn't be hard get a damn thesaurus.
I think Jony alone has already over used all of the superlatives in any thesaurus you care to name.

This is the RAM module on the top. They likely only add the CPU/package markings after they bond the CPU package underneath.
